I think everyone should say yes. Adding those pieces makes NJ playoff ready as some of those guys know what it takes to go the distance. If I’m SJ here I take it and run. I think Blackwood will find his game eventually.

Not sure Wilson returns in time to prove health in time for deadline, but would be interesting addition. I doubt STL considers ROR for rental dman (if they sell, they will want future pieces). And Meier deal depends on contract.

But would be solid forward group to build upon

You’re not going to like hearing this but you’re going to have to make the second a first in the caps trade. We aren’t trading wilson in the division without serious value coming back. We realistically aren’t trading him to begin with.

You should seriously reconsider. Wilson is 28 and has one year left. Holtz is a great player and you get a solid pick in a great draft. Basically getting a 1st and 2nd for him. Especially w him coming off surgery and there are always unknowns.

Only way they trade Wilson is if they are rebuilding, they aren't rebuilding until Ovi retires. Plus, Wilson will probably be the next Caps captain.

Trading Wilson doesn’t signal a rebuild imo. It’s an intelligent move to elongate their window by adding youth. Holtz is great. Wilson is a 50p winger. I love him but that’s easily replaceable

If Wilson was just a 50 point winger than sure, but he isn't. He's the most unique player in the league that you can never replace (maybe the Tkachuk brothers). As long as your contending, trading him for a prospect and 1st (no matter how good) doesn't really help them now.

Given that ror even resigns with the blues. Kinda feel both players will enter free agency and the blues would get a mid to late round pick in return. They could also flip severson again for more assets. But again this is if their season continues to go downhill and look to rebuild.

Caps will need to start looking to retool or they will be spending a decade trying to do so (like the devils did). Caps will most likely be a low playoff seed or just miss the playoffs. They will probably give ovi 2 more seasons after this year so they'll need to look past then to develop their future.

Okay, first, this whole flip him for assets stuff isn't happening. Folks need to let go of that concept, it almost never happens and nobody will accept it at face value. Also, this retention is not "equal salary blah blah" - it's the Blues paying ROR salary for Severson. That's not even remotely equal. And again, the Blues have no use whatsoever for Severson. And if you actually believe that O'Reilly can only fetch a mid to late round pick, I don;t even know what to say to that. That's one of the wackiest things I've ever read on here. Absolutely nothing about this offer would tempt the Blues. It's brutal for them.

Exactly! I think gearing meier is the major piece for the future. In this deal we probably let Reimer walk at the end of the year and allow schmid or daws compete for the backup roll. Overall if this dream scenario occurred Reimer, tartar, O'Reilly, haula, and Graves might test free agency. But not rulling any of the offensive ufas out from resigning.

I like mercer, but they way they built this team is not going to work out. Drastic changes may need to happen if they expect to get fans in the stands or they might turn into the eastern conference coyotes.

Ror on the downside of his career getting anything in return for him would be a bonus for the blues. Hes like a half a ppg player, only on the 2nd pp unit, and -21 on a .500 team. His only value is being a veteran player that is really good at face offs that can preform in the playoffs. So tell me his value as a Ufa on a team that may not make the playoffs? There's no rulling out severson resigning with the blues in this scenario and if devils are looking for a long playoff push they can use some veteran players.. they only have like 2 guys on their team over 30. Again remember these are all hypothetical trades no reason to get all butt hurt over it.

Setting aside this hilarious ROR rundown (you clearly only "watch him play" by reading stats), I am wondering when you will get it through your head that the Blues have ZERO USE for Severson. I've said it like 3-4 times now. Parayko and Faulk eat up like 47 RD minutes and Bortuzzo owns the rest. There is no room for him whatsoever, let alone at that outrageous salary. This entire idea is woefully misguided from front to back, and that's an understatement. What are you not getting about this?

This reads like three very reactionary moves to what's currently a non-issue, every team is gonna go through slumps.
The Devils are still outplaying and outchancing most teams even though they are on a 6 game losing streak.
Dedication to skill and speed are key to them winning the possession game on most nights.
Seems to me the main issue currently for this team is how everyone other than Jack Hughes have forgotten how to put the puck in the net.
I'd also highlight Siegenthaler's and Hamilton's poor play as of late, they haven't been themselves in December.

Anyway, the Devils shouldn't go near any of these moves.
Wilson is injured and has only got two years of team control, no point in giving Holtz up for that.
Severson has been one of their most consistent performs on defense and is managing to heavily tilt the ice in the Devils favor while paired with frickin Brendan Smith so moving Severson out creates a big hole in the lineup.
Dealing Mercer in a Meier trade is nothing but a terrible mistake, rather deal Holtz here.

The caps are correctly not going to rebuild while Ovi is still with the team, and given that they have been a top 5 team in the league since thanksgiving, its not at all unreasonable to think they can still compete. They are not going to move Wilson -- who despite what people think about him is truly one of the most unique players in the league -- unless they are getting an immediate roster upgrade, especially if it is to a direct division rival.

I am completely serious in saying that any Wilson to the Devils trade would have to start with Luke Hughes, Nemec, or Bratt. A Wilson deal would have to be conditional on them getting better now or the futures being too good to ignore. Holtz is far from a bust, but clearly is 2-3 years off from being an impact NHL player. Caps don't have that kind of time.

They'll be a contender as long as Ovi is here so another 3 years after this. Once he retires they probably do a full rebuild so they won't be a team missing the playoffs for 10 years like the Devils did.
