Horvat is having a career year on offense. He will not continue to score at the current pace. Horvat is a 2C who is defensively one of the best in the league. Would he fit in Pitt? Absolutely, but don't expect a ton of offense.

im totally ok with that… I want Sid and geno and carter to have easier and fewer minutes… so sliding horvat into the 3C spot but getting him time on special teams and running 4 lines we still should be able to get him 17 min a night…

I should also add that I think Horvat will take more than tbe offer proposed. I don't know a ton about Svejkosky. I think the Canucks want a top prospect defenseman with top 4 locked in by next year. The 1st is going to be mid to low, so even in a deep draft, that doesn't carry a ton of weight. I don't know that Pitt has enough in the cupboard to swing a Horvat trade.

As a Canucks fan, I love to hear this rhetoric. But it is not true.
Horvat, while fantastic on draws and serviceable defensively, is far from an elite defensive Center.
He’s heavy, great on draws, built for the playoffs and is a bonafide goal scorer. Will his goal scoring pace slow down? Yes. But I’m confident 35goals/82 games is a realistic pace for the next 3-4yrs.

He’s an interesting skillset imo.

The rumoured ask for Horvat is a 1st, young roster C, top defensive prospect, and possibly another minor asset depending on the value of the C and prospect. From Pittsburgh, I think the best fit along those guidelines would be a 2023 1st, Pickering, Poehling, and maybe a 2024 3rd. Obviously that's the ask and you always start by asking for more than what you want. From there I'm not sure what would fit Pittsburgh's needs best, but I think the 2023 1st and Pickering would be the core parts of the deal, with Poehling and the 3rd being able to be replaced/dropped depending on Pittsburgh's needs/wants.

Only the first born? We're talking about a Canadian franchise here. With the right teammates, Horvat can win the cup all by himself. He has THAT much value.

Pit does need to send some salary back theoretically tho unless we can unload kappy or dumoulin or whoever somewhere else…
Maybe we could counter with
Horvat @ 50% retained, random depth d-man
For
Kapanen, svejkovsky, Pickering, 1st

Basically you’d get the better player (kap over poehling) and you’re taking our best prospect in pickering and a young C/RW prospect

Right, forgot about salary cap. Canucks could probably take back Kapanen in the deal to make things work, Rutherford and Allvin also have an existing relationship with him and seem to like his style. As for taking Kapanen over Poehling, I agree Kapanen is the better player. However, the Canucks already have too many wingers and have a weakness down the middle that will become even larger by trading Horvat, which is why they are looking for a young roster C.

I do think that is a pretty good offer though. Would you consider doing Hallander over Svejkovsky? I think Hallander is closer to NHL ready, and would probably fit the Canucks roster better.

All fair points and yes that’s true about Hallander… he’s a responsible two way C and he didn’t look out of place when he came up earlier in the year… Sullivan even trusted him to kill penalties lol…
Assuming I could sign Horvat to an extension around 7x7.5……..

I’d counter with kapanen, Hallander, Pickering, 1st
For
Horvat @ 50% retained, Hoglander or Podkolzin

(I just feel PIT would ask for one smaller piece like a young forward or D…) idk if that’s too much… or maybe just a smaller pick back like a 4th?
