You mean trades don't have to be one sided?
This is a fair trade, but there are a lot of assumptions that need to be addressed. 1st, Horvat would need to sign on long term. 2nd, the Canucks are looking for a pick and/or high end D prospect.
Question: Jokiharu is young, but what is his honest potential? I don't know much about him other than never noticing him while he plays (which can be good or bad). If he expected to be a top 4, I think Vancouver could be good without a 1st, but a 2nd would have to be included.
The Canucks get to backfill Horvat with an underperforming Mittlestadt, and a high potential Krebs. Neither player replaces Horvat's defensive game, but there are not a ton of 2Cs like Horvat. Krebs and Mittlestadt could make up for the defensive loss by being better on offense than Horvat (excluding this season as an outer in his career). It really comes down to how good Jokiharu projects to be.
From the Sabres side of things, they get several prime years of one of the best 2Cs in the league. They could potentially be losers in the deal if Mittlestadt and/or Krebs live up to their draft pedigree.
