Michael Bunting is 27 and has made $2.3 million his entire career.

He is not going to pass up his one opportunity to cash in to sign a colton sissons type contract.

That Oreilly contract might cost you matthews or nylander

Not if the cap goes up by $4M. Next season will be the last season where the cap goes up $1M, when Matthews contract is up, we could see the cap go up to $4-5M

and youd have to sign matthews, nylander, sandin, liljegren, replace brodie and giordano and find a new backup/tandem goalie

prob has to give a little a bit more AAV like 3.5 or something but like, it is a cash in. Suppose he got 5x5 on the open market vs this proposed 3.1x8 with the Leafs, he still comes ahead, and I'm not sure any team would give him much more than that 5x5 i suggested.

i guess if you think he will be out of the NHL in 5 years that makes a teeny tiny bit of sense. because hed earn more money in those last 3 years.

everyone had this debate with jack campbell, who had similar circumstances and he cashed in.

yea. maybe like it's def possible. Though I do think teams are more desperate for a goalie than a winger. And Bunting's small sample size of success is essentially banking 60 points playing with Matthews and Marner or Nylander so teams may be weary of that.

I think Samsonov signs a QO for next season and then a 2 year bridge deal around 3M after that. I would also like to see Timmins sign a 2-year deal similar to Sandin and Liljegren’s cap hit.

I don’t see how ROR can work (he won’t take that deal) or the need for JVR - he’d be a terrible 4th liner.
Bunting prob makes 5x$4.5 or 6x$4; could get more elsewhere but hopefully he stays b/c he’s a homer.
Still room to sign an impact winger, but maybe a vet on a “prove it one year deal” so as not to impact Matty & Willy ( and Sandin / Lili) deals the year after.

Maybe OReilly takes a one year deal at that price to prove himself again and cash in next year, but not a chance he's taking 4x4. That would be the biggest hometown discount of all time.

Huh? We should sign players that can help us win next year but not harm our chances to re-sign key pieces year after. Pretty simple.

This isn't realistic at all. Bunting isn't signing so cheap. He know that he might not see much of that money if he bought out. Holmberg is eligible for arbitration. He certainly isn 't signing a three year deal that cheap. Samsonov isn't signing a three year deal that cheap. Gee if he keeps up his stellar play he in play for an offer sheet.
JVR isn't needed and maybe not even ROR.

Brodie contract is up that year as well so maybe they don't resign him. They go with a cheaper option and save 3 million there.
