Why are you paying a fourth liner $2 million?

it’s very unlikely but if i were debrincat i’d consider taking the 9mil QO and then try to get a big deal when the cap actually goes up the offseason before 24-25 as opposed to taking this deal. i think he has way more to gain doing that since he can most likely (barring career-ending injury) still get at least this the following season if he waits. the injury risk means he probably won’t but if i were him i’d think about it.

I'd say rn Motte is our best defensive forward, great on the pk and very flexible to move around the lineup. Probably could get him for less, but I don't want to lose him like we did Nick Paul and Connor Brown, gotta pay somebody eventually. I could see him continue to play up on the 3rd line depending on the matchup and how aggressive DJ wants to be.

My only argument is Cat did struggle to find his footing to start the season on a new team, so maybe he'd be open to a bridge deal with the Sens who he's familiar with in order to build a case for a higher AAV next time around. Also based this evaluation mainly on what Frank Seravalli said lately on the coming in hot podcast, but maybe it'd be more likely as a 2-3 year deal.

yeah i could see him signing a long term deal for sure, just thinking from a pure money pov that cat could probably come out with more if he takes a short term deal to wait out a cap increase so he might be inclined to go in that direction.
