Calgarys already got both Ritchie and Lewis for less than Oskar. Wouldn't mind Bertuzzi if healthy.

Probably not unless he's healthy and putting up goals, still a good player though, just too much of a gamble RN.

Why EXACTLY would the Sabres do this?

1- a 3rd round pick has little value to us, our prospect pool is stacked already & we have lots of picks coming still

2- LH defensemen are of no need to us, we could use a good RH guy though

This trade just gives us no reason whatsoever to move on from Mitts
Just bc he isn’t meeting his top10 draft pick expectations, doesn’t mean we are gonna just dump him

That Leafs trade would be a massive W for the Wings. Just don’t think Leafs fans are gonna be super happy to see their two best prospects +1st getting traded🤣

Haha, yeah. I figured as much. I know Knies and Niemala are the Leafs two best prospects, but I think they’d just barely crack the top 5 in ours. Knies, imo is super overrated and don’t think he will amount to more than a high end bottom 6 forward. I love Niemala tho. The first rounder will obviously be a late one and as far as Muzzin goes, idk if he will be going on LTIR or if they would benefit from moving his contract otherwise, so I just threw him in there to provide potentially some added benefit.

Clearly why you are trading for him and playing him in your top 6.

I didn’t say he sucks. He isn’t very good and that is very obvious. Still young and worth taking a flier on. A change of scenery could possibly do him good so, putting him in a situation (top 6) would be giving him the best chance to succeed.

Okay, I’ll let Steve Yzerman know that it’s no deal 🙅🏻‍♂️ Thanks.

Ok...so now think of it in that light for Buffalo. They have a young center, under team control for the next few seasons, who currently looks like a decent 3C option going forward and might have more upside. Why would they be moving him for nothing? It's not like they are in a hurry to replace him. Why does Buffalo do this trade?

Hm, I don’t remember putting “nothing” going to Buffalo in the deal. I already thought of it, which is why made the trade. The player has not only not lived up to his draft status, he’s underperforming his contract and has ever since he finished his rookie deal.

Emil Viro is a decent prospect and a 3rd round pick is a solid draft pick. I don’t see them getting more for him than that. If you have some sort of affinity for the player, that’s fine, from an unemotional standpoint, he is not very good.

I don't have any affinity for the player, I'm not even a Sabres fan. This trade is so just easy to see that it makes no sense for the Sabres. There's no incentive here. Viro isnt a decent prospect, he's having trouble in the AHL to the point he played ECHL games this season. Not many players who make it to the NHL play ECHL games, he's unlikely to ever see the show. Beyond the obvious like that, he's also a left d which Buffalo has no need of going forward, their pool is already strong there. Viro and a 3rd might as well be nothing to the Sabres. The point was never that they won't get more, it's why are they trading him at all? You see Mittelstadt as a player who might have more potential ... so why do you think the Sabres don't see that too? The risk vs reward basically doesn't exist for the Sabres in this trade. They get no reward, it's all risk that Mittelstadt turns it around.

My man, he’s been there for like 6 years. What are you saying. I think we’ve all seen that he isn’t very good and he isn’t going to be much better than he has shown in Buffalo. Any team acquiring him is purchasing a lottery ticket. We pretty much know by now, he is a very average NHL player or below.

He doesn’t have more potential in Buffalo. He is what he is after 6 years boss. Could he be a better player elsewhere? Maybe.

The only reason I would say No to this trade is because he is a LD, and would rather try and use him for something else.

Not true. Viro played in the Echl so he can get more icetime. Not because he wasn’t good enough. Same with Sebrango and Cossa. Wings have so much depth on the LD position that they need to do these kind of moves.

The Suter trade is fine in terms of value, but the Pens have no cap space to make that deal.

Personally, I'd give you guys a 3rd + Heinen (instead of retention) for Sundqvist.

No reason for Buffalo to dump him for table scraps though

If Knies comes out, one of or both of Maatta &/or Kubalik comes out of the deal and you can keep Muzzin.

I wouldn’t go as far as calling the return table scraps but, I can see your perspective of wanting more for him. I just have an issue with people trying to tell us all how great of a player he is.
