Initial Creation Date: Dec. 24, 2022
Published: Dec. 27, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
CAR
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (NJD)
2.
CAR
  1. Duclair, Anthony
Additional Details:
Florida shed the cap space they need to with Duclair coming back soon. Carolina gets that final speedy winger they need to perfectly round out the roster. Duclair is coming off an achillies injury though, so it's tough to judge his value. Pick could be the Philly 2nd next year too.
FLA
  1. Noesen, Stefan
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Noesen is scoring at half a point per game and he makes $762,500 this year and next.

Not only do the devils not have the cap space to fit him, Raanta has played in 12 games with an .886 sv%. Considering the team he’s playing for I think it’s easy to conclude he is not worth any kind of positive asset. ESPECIALLY when the trade directly helps a rival team.

Raanta also has a GSAx that is FAR better than any of the NJD goalies. Not to mention, Carolina's defense this year ranks third last in xGA. Raanta is performing fine and that is the issue with looking at an average through 12 games. The only reason Carolina is where they are is that Kochetov is having the kind of season this year Shesterkin was having last year. Raanta has not been bad, at all. This doesn't help the Canes because Freddie is still made of polystyrene. At 2 million, this is almost nothing in cap relief, Canes could keep Raanta and just run a 21 man roster (as they normally do). It doesn't have to be New Jersey either, it could be Edmonton or any team that realizes goaltending is a problem. NJD are just the most obvious example of that.

I’d rather keep Noesen at 762500 for this and next years and use that cap savings accordingly. He fits too well as depth scoring in the bottom six and provides flexibility to play with Staal or on the fourth line.

You’ve said to me multiple times ‘Staal isn’t a fourth line player’. So you’ve basically traded a pick and cap space for Duclair who you’re playing on the 4th line.

Duclair would be a great addition to an already deep lineup. It would allow the Canes to essentially have 4 scoring lines that can also match up quite well defensively.

Noesen doesn't produce in the bottom six. Almost all of his production has come on the powerplay. Duclair provides a much better scoring option with some terrifying speed.

I honestly love this.

While I agree with the sentiment we can carry three goals, I think that's all smoke and mirrors from team management. You need one good goalie in the playoffs, that's it, this 1A, 1B, 1C setup has been what's hurt us in the past. Is it Mrazek or Reimer? Is it Ned or Mrazek? Do we play Kotchetkov or Raanta? The future is Kotchetkov and he should be allowed the opportunity to start until he proves himself not worthy, pick one to back him up and you know going into the playoffs if the young goalie isn't ready for the pressure (which we know he is), then you go back to a veteran. I just don't see how this plays out well i.e. Kooch starting Game 1 of the divisional round and he loses, so we go to Freddie, and he loses, so we go to Raanta. None of that makes sense, we aren't carrying 3 goalie contracts into the playoffs when there are rentals and offensive assets that can elevate our scoring depth.

DW has a good relationship with Zito and I think there is definitely a deal that could get done. May require conditional portions of the deal that can upgrade the trade for FLA as well, i.e. points scored or playoff games played for Duclair. Your point of Noesen vs. Duclair is spot on, Duclair is an absolute improvement over Noesen.

Thanks for letting me use your ACGM thread as a comment section to vent.
