I like Kaliyev, but no deal involving Cal Petersen makes any sense for the isles. More importantly I doubt the Kings want to retain 50% on Petersen for two seasons.

This trade makes a lot of sense for the isles. Isles have the best goaltending coaches in the league, Peterson has had a few great seasons. At worst, he’s a backup making 2.5 mill (market value) . I’m sure La would rather retain 2.5 mill rather than keep him

I don’t c that as great value for Sorokin. Rn I’m not at the point where I think they should consider moving him. They aren’t out of the race, and he seems like he likes Long Island.

Maybe this deal makes sense with Varly, but you would have to take Kaliyev out of it. Maybe replace him with Grans or Spence? Idk.

sorokin isn’t re-signing with the isles if they don’t go on a deep run. He’s the only reason why they aren’t in the running for Bedard.

Varly doesn’t have that kind of value.

Right but Petersen’s contract is pretty bad.

I also should’ve clarified the isles would be taking on the full cap hit

Isles r a top six winger and an Adam Pelech away from a deep run. No need to hit the panic button yet imo.

Not at 2.5 mill it isn’t , it’s worth the risk when you consider what else you’re getting back in the trade

Which is why I suggested taking the full hit IF you can keep Mitch Korn and Co past this year.

The isles were terrible with pelech in the lineup. A top 6 winger isn’t going to make a huge difference. You can add Brady Tkachuk to this team and it wouldn’t make a significant difference. Too many liabilities in the lineup (Bailey, Beauvillier , cizikas etc)

I don’t dislike him, he can’t play RW. Two coaching staffs haven’t figured that out yet.

They aren’t significantly worse either. They were getting outplayed with pelech in the lineup

Not sure I agree with that assessment based on the eye test.

Some of them , sure. but not enough to make them a good forward core. Pageau and cizikas have been bad too

They were literally getting outplayed almost every game with pelech. That’s with pelech playing well which is even more telling . Did you miss the 1st Arizona game? Or that blues game where we looked like an ECHL level team?

Pageau and Cizikas r normally deployed in a more defensive role, so idk if that’s gonna help ur metrics tbh. At the end of the day, maybe they would be better if Lambert stopped preaching dump and chase with Lines 2-4. Beau has been turned into a pure puck retrieval guy on line two, and it makes me sick.

Most zone starts are on the fly , it doesn’t affect much

Beau on RW makes him a dump and chase puck retrieval forward because he can’t protect the puck as welll on that side

Even if this team got nuked (unlikely) that is horrible value for Sorokin IMO
