VAN
  1. Knies, Matthew [Reserve List]
  2. Niemelä, Topi
  3. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Horvat, Bo ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Horvat currently has 35 pts in 32 games and has been on 90+ point pace for the past year. People need to start accepting the fact that Horvat is actually a skilled goal scorer. Not to mention one of the best faceoff guys in the league.

His low end comparable as a rental is Andrew Copp who got a first rounder, as second, Morgan Barron, and a 5th rounder. Copp had just over 30pts in 56 games. Alvin has said that he values younger players under 25 more than draft picks so here's a package that the Canucks would start with.

Just a note for Leafs fans. Kerfoot adds no value for us. Neither does Robertson, Hirvonen, Voit, Anderson, Villenevue or any combination of them and a draft pick. Do yourselves a favor and trade Kerfoot to a team that could actually use him and give you assets in return. Horvat instantly makes the Leafs better and will get them over the hump of the first round regardless of being a rental or not. There's a tradeoff though and that is sacrificing what you may consider significant pieces to get there.

Leafs fans treat the value of Knies like he is McDavid.

Guess what?

HE ISN'T!

Mark Stone was significantly better than Horvat has ever been and got a 2nd and a good prospect and an AHL player, AND he came with a baked in extension, oh and he was younger.
Canucks fans value Horvat like he's Mario Lemieux

Management values Knies highly, just not fans
Copp was traded for two 2nd round pick with one conditional that turned into a 1st
You ain’t getting that for Boeser & Horvat

Not getting the Habs 3rd best prospect and a 2nd for Boeser sorry. Habs aren't moving Barron unless they add a pick to upgrade the RD prospect.

Especially after they overvalue Horvat so badly he becomes JT Miller 2 and signs long term and then they can all try trading him before his new deal kicks in. Funniest fan base here....along with Hab fans.

Replying to an extreme take with a more extreme take never serves anything other than making you look as silly as the original

I, for one, think it would be a good move to give up this year's 1st plus my two top prospects for a guy shooting a full 10 points better than his career to date shooting percentage.

By the way, what's regression?

Leafs really don't need Horvat...though he would be a nice add. Other teams need a centre more. Sorry if you don't see that "cap dumps" from any team are almost necessary in any trade
That's bad for Montreal too. They will find better ways to spend 6.65 than Boesner and keep their two assets too.

What's a fair return then? 1st and a 2nd? Two firsts? One third rounder? I don't know much about Niemla or Knies but they must be pretty great as them + 1st gets you Mario.

I think the poster's Copp comparable is pretty relevant.

Flyers got Tippet + 1st and third for Giroux. Tippet probably similair profile to Robertson? Robertson + 1st and third? Giroux was also no where near the form Bo is at the time he was traded.

He's on a 60 goal pace. You're obviously not trading for a 60 goal player with two prospects and a first.

Anyone GM valuing Horvat based on his "60 goal pace" when his career high in his 8 years before this one was 31 isn't going to be a GM very long after pulling the trigger on a deal.

If you're saying you're holding out for a better package than a 2023 1st rounder plus TML's top 2 prospects based on Horvat's year so far, I would wager you're going to wind up stuck with Horvat at 3:01PM on March 3rd.

I'm very much not saying that.

You were implying his sh% is inflated and therefore he won't continue at this pace. I agree. I'm saying the above return (seems fair based on others opinions of the prospects, I've never seen either of them play) is not what someone would ask for the return on a 60 goal scorer. If Auston Mathews was on an expiring contract last year, it would cost more than this to acquire him.

To be fair I should say this is probably too much for Horvat if these prospects are legit. One good prospect + 1st + 3rd is what I expect the return to be.

Ah, misunderstood you on that, apologies.

I think the Copp return on steroids is what Vancouver should be shooting for. No conditions, just a straight up 1st this year, plus a better prospect than Morgan Barron, and an additional 2nd should be the starting point. If you *really* want to blow the other offers out of the water, throw in another B-tier prospect and I think it nails it. For the Leafs I'd say Niemela//2023 1st/2024 2nd starts the conversation; if you want to get the deal done in one phone call, add in someone like Nick Robertson and I think it's a done deal.
