Well if the Leafs don't succeed in the playoffs and don't think they are resigning Matthews.....yep a trade like this could happen, though I don't think Matthews is signing with Arizona either.

Personally I think the trade is somewhat fine .....but don't like the Domi and Zacha signings. Engvall and Kampf get more.

If Matthews really wants to go to Arizona, then they can just wait another year for him. He's not helping them do anything next season anyways. Other than maybe making their 1st round pick a little worse the following year.

Ha! Matthews going to Arizona..

He's not going to a clown organization that plays out of a 4000 seat arena that can't even sell out.

If Matthews leaves Toronto, it will be for the big lights of Manhattan or LA.

Arizona could offer their franchise for Matthews and Leafs would still decline...

It's actually wild that of the entire top 10 of the 2016 draft only 3 players are still on their original draft team. Matthews (who you are right may walk if they don't find playoff success soon), Puljujarvi (who is probably in his last season with Edmonton), and Keller (who may end up being the only one to stay with their original team and Arizona of all teams)
palhal liked this.

Arizona dont got the money to sign him lul. They barely got money for an arena. U really think Arizona gonna say here's 15mill with a 100mill signing bonus total nope

If Matthews does not extend he probs gets traded and it will be the biggest trade seen

Now if Dubas was to look at Arizona he would want the 2023 unprotected 1st from Arizona as even if Matthews is gone hes got a shot at Bedard which is basically the perfect if not better future replacement

They'd make room for him if he wanted to sign in Arizona, but I doubt he does that. There's just no chance Arizona moves the first for him as a rental and of he did want to sign there they just wait. Why give up anything?

Arizona is on a tight budget

Nobody on their team is even close to his money. If they signed him to a 15mill x 7 year deal with a total of 100mill in SB the team would go bankrupt.

As we saw they dont got got money to pay arena bills so how they gonna afford an NHL super star.

But in the end lets be honest why would Matthews even want to go to Arizona. They got nothing interesting to entice him and wont be competitive for many years even if he goes. If he aint extending there will be a team who will give up more anyways for him lul.

I agree that he isn't going to Arizona. But they would have the money, Betman wants a team in Arizona, so they are backed by the NHL's money.
