Like Meier, but not THAT much. If Holtz plus 1st means Meier comes with good extension…then adding Gritsyuk means he comes with an unusually team-friendly deal. If Meier agrees to something like 6 years x $4 million (he won’t), the trade price would be justified.

McLeod has significantly more value to NJD than Bjugstad. Could probably get the latter for mid pick if Arizona moves him.

Would love it if Blackwood returned a 1st (or any pick). But no one is buying him these days unless they are paying to tank.

I couldn't see the Devils paying a 2nd for a goalie like Blackwood. Why would anyone trade thar for him, plus?

Why is Buffalo trading a 1st in a world they aren't making the playoffs for a potential rental, that if they sign Wood they pay a premium to have him not go to UFA?

I’m not calling it the gospel. Personally I wouldn’t touch Blackwood either, but I’m just saying I am building on that article

There aren't many goalies I would move a first for. The idea that you can take something that might hold second round value and add some stuff to it to try to get a first- isn't at all appealing. And I expect gms to be extremely reluctant to move firsts this year.

You’re basing all of that off of Meier+1st coming with an extension being the end all be all. His value as a player is still significant, and if it comes to a bidding war we should be happy to pay that price.

McLeod is not a better hockey player. I would honestly expect NJ to need to add a mid/late rounder to that deal

Interesting idea. The pick will almost definitely be top 22, and I'd LOVE to bring Miles to Buffalo. If Blackwood were a definite and significant upgrade to Comrie, I think I might do it but I'm not sure that's the case

I mean, adding value is a way to increase a return, no? The additions are a forward who can improve the biggest need in Buffalo (the bottom 6) and a 3rd. I didn’t just add random pieces

Regarding your second point, that’s why the pick is heavily protected. I don’t expect the Sabres to pick in a late range this year, and fully expect it to be a late pick next year

Blackwood:

If he comes with an extension. It’s a huge “if”.

There is a ginormous gap between Meier the $10 million (or maybe $8.6m) rental and Meier with long-term deal. And most ACGMs seem to split the difference. It is frustrating to me. Just pick one or the other.

Yea, I don't feel they are doing Buffalo any justice. I can't really take a blog seriously as I would bet Buffalo fans are trashing that option.

I’m not sure about Buffalo’s writers there tbh, but NJ has a solid crew who seem to have league connections

Yes hockey writers suggested him for Sabres but your trade is hugely generous compared to this and if wanting to waste a first or second Arizona would be the place to splurge

And you’re being told there’s ZERO chance the Sabres do that

Blackwood hasn’t been good at all the past 3 seasons, his save % is ONLY .888 this season
He’s not even worth a 2nd- no matter what that article says
And even if he was- adding a 3rd (no value to us- we have three 2nds this year) and a bottom6 player, just doesn’t bump his value up to a 1st

I do like Wood, so maybe we’d give up a pick for him
But as a bottom6 player, i can’t see us give up a lot

There’s nothing you guys would wanna give up to us that would get us to even remotely consider a 1st
And again, no interest in Blackwood. He hasn’t been good for 3 seasons now, so i frankly don’t think we’d give up anything at all for him

Basing your proposal off an EXTREMELY FLAWED idea to begin with just isn’t gonna work out dude

Just building off the idea presented there. Like I said, I wouldn’t touch Blackwood 🤷🏻‍♂️

Then you should know not to build off a dumb idea that you don’t even agree with in the 1st place

Just delete this- that article is crap

Why? Because we disagree? This is just a fun hypothetical to base it off of

No, bc it’s based off an absurdity to begin with

You’ve been repeatedly told there’s no chance
You- YOURSELF- even said you wouldn’t trade for Blackwood,
let alone give up a 1st for him

Astonishingly absurd dude
