I'd argue that Bennett was a pretty good decision, no? I think Zito's most egregious errors are definitely trading for Chiarot and letting Brunette go only to replace him for Maurice

considering the extensions and how the season is going in calgary, i'd say the Tkachuk trade was a good idea....the rest though

I think the Bennett trade was good for Florida but yeah the rest are questionable or at least debatable for sure.

The Bob decision (and I don’t know if that was Zito or not) was the breaking point…all other decisions after that are an effect of that initial cause. Everything is trying to cover up for that massive $10m anchor weighing down everything else.

The Bob signing was done by Dale Tallon.

Then all Zito decisions have been trying to mask that - over paying for rental defense or trying to out score teams.

Bennett and tkachuk trade were not bad trades whatsoever. And really the knight signing? He’s making 4 million. This is a terrible take.

1. Zito gave up two seconds for a 4th line forward at the time.

2. Zito gave up Huberdeau, Weegar and a first for Tkachuk.

Calgary was able to re-sign both Huberdeau and Weegar immediately.

3. Zito signed Knight to 4.5 million on top of the 10 million for Bobrovsky.

Both Bobrovsky and Knight have done diddly squat since then.

Have fun with the draft lottery.

The Bennett trade and signing was a home run.

The tkachuk trade was a win for Florida long term.

Nothing wrong with the knight signing

Stralman was a cap move no?

The whole point was Florida couldn't afford both and signing older players to max term deals is dumb.

Your Bennett take is ridiculous

Should he have just not signed Knight then? Yikes

bennett’s worked out really well for them, two seconds for a really good 2C is a really good deal. if i were them i would have held out until the end of this year to sign knight because i think 4.5 for him is a little excessive but zito’s job has been made exponentially harder because of the bob contract that he didn’t sign. his only actual miss imo is chiarot and then maurice

I'm not sure he really needed to make the Giroux deal either.
I get going for it but Idk if it was really necessary.

What about the Chiarot trade? Or are we considering that good for FLA?

Okay bob will be bought out. So knight can take over and before knight was out he was playi by very well in front of a horrible d. And bennett trade looks like a steal as he is now a second line forward doing exacting what he was drafted to do. And weegar was never being resigned and huberdeau was gonna make more money the first round pick was a loss but Florida won that trade by a mile.if it wasn’t for Maurice this team would be doing much better than they are. Plus they’re playing like a top 10 team but not finishing like a top 10 team.

The Tkachuk trade was never going to look good this year. Next year when you would have had to let one of those players go and in the following years when those guys start to age out, it's going to look amazing.

Bennetts good, so is Knight, I don't get that at all.

I understand it sucks going from winning the presidents trophy to where you are this year but the future is bright in Florida. In four years everyones going to be talking about Zitos galaxy brain.

Florida is single-handedly the absolute dumbest managed franchise in the NHL. Happy to see someone that agrees!

The Tkachuk trade made the team better long term while hurting it short term. Had Zito not traded way too much last deadline, he would have had the assets to move Hornqvist and this wouldn’t even be a discussion. At the same time you don’t let one bad decision make you make two. You do the trade and then take the L this season. Profit for the next 7.

Well they taken over the Leafs who was the worse during the end of the Quinn era then Ferguson, then Burke than Nonis. That was about 12 years of horrid decisions.

Zito had one bad year. They aren’t Vancouver, Edmonton, Chicago or others. This is beyond a bad take.

Cgy could afford to pay those raises, Florida would only have been able to pay one of them. If I were only able to afford Tkachuk, Huberdeau or Weegar, I'd definitely take Tkachuk.

Funny about the Calgary trade. I thought Calgary won the trade,,,because either way they only going to get one more year for Tkachuk. Calgary's big mistake was resigning Huberneau to that 8 year contract.
We'll never know if Panthers were better to have not made the trade, gone with what they had last year and then be cap free when Huberneau and Weager were UFAs in summer of 2023.

In four years? With all those 1st and 2nd round picks turning into legit NHLers? Oh no a bunch of those were traded for essentially nothing, for the Panthers to be relevant they're going to need to kill it in free agency and/or find some later round diamonds in the rough at the draft.

In four years they'll be moving onto another coach so that should help at least.

It's Florida, they should have no problem killing it in free agency, no tax, beach, etc. Pretty sure everybody wants to play and live there.
