Rick Nash and Raanta

Created by: Caletti12
Team: 2017-18 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2017
Published: Jun. 5, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers are in pretty big cap trouble so Nash shouldn't be too expensive. His contract also expires next season so they can either re-sign him for cheaper or use him as a pure rental. He might not be the same player as he used to be but he can still be a dangerous player if he's paired with Monahan and Gaudreau. Having Raanta as the #1 opens up space to sign a big name player like shattenkirk, instantly giving CGY on of the top bluelines in the league. With two pairings that can play 20-25 minutes / night, the third pairing can be sheltered and see limited minutes in good situations.

Rangers don't need a G prospect. think this would work as a sign and trade with Stone though

That would fill a real need for NYR, but then NYR would want the deal to be after the expansion draft, right? Also costs CGY an extra 5th Round Pick (for re-signing Stone), but that'd still be fair IMO if NYR would retain the amount you noted on Nash.

Nash and Raanta would be solid adds for CGY.

Don't think you're correct about CGY including Lazar with Brouwer for Vegas unless there were other players involved coming back to CGY. And in those cases, it would likely conflict with the Raanta add you've proposed (because the player coming back would very likely be a goalie).

The way I look at it, the best case scenario for Lazar is a middle-of-the-pack top-6 or top-9 forward, and I think the value that we gave away to get him, a 2nd round pick, was fair. I'm thinking a second round pick, or a guy who Vegas would likely take that we would normally protect, would be what it would cost for them to take Brouwer. I like the idea of the Stone sign and trade but I don't know if the NYR would want his salary. I'm looking at Nash as more of a salary dump for the rangers than trading an actual asset.

Can't do this. I had forgotten this myself, but Nash still has his modified NTC intact and refuses to go to a Canadian team. You'll have to look elsewhere.
