Petersen is in the AHL right now. That doesn't really help the Kings in the playoffs. Demko's numbers have been greatly skewed by this season and he could be the solution to the King's goalie struggles, especially as Quick declines in the future.

The Kings would rather keep rolling with Copley (on a 7 game winning streak), than burn cap and assets for Demko (who has not been great this season).

A change of scenery trade should be 1:1. Demko for Petersen. Both showed promise and were both compared for their current contracts. No Kings fans complained at the time Petersen received that contract because he could have matched it on the open market at the time. And by the way, he earned it at that time. Both now have very similar stats which are atrocious. Why is Demko valued so much higher than Petersen by Vancouver fans? Unless it’s a 1:1 swap, you can keep Demko.

    Overall GSAx
    2020/21: Petersen 4.88, Demko 8.7
    2021/22: Petersen -7.48, Demko 7.3
    2022/23: Petersen -10.12, Demko -11.35

    5v5 GSAx
    2020/21: Petersen 6.22, Demko 7.89
    2021/22: Petersen -6.34, Demko 19.71
    2022/23: Petersen -3.51, Demko -1.09

Demko ranked 3rd in 5v5 GSAx last season behind Sorokin and Shesterkin, and 2nd in 2020/21 and 2021/22 combined behind only Shesterkin. He had two seasons of elite play prior to his 15 games of struggles this season, and played at a higher level than Peterson behind a much worse defense. Demko is also a year younger

Take out the first-round draft pick and Los Angeles might entertain that offer. Walker for Schenn is an even swap. Grundstrom and Kupari for Kuzmenko is probably in favor of Vancouver, but let's call it even. Demko isn't better than Petersen with retention by a first, and maybe not by a third. GSAx is only one statistic. Demko's numbers aren't significantly different from Petersen's, either this season (3.93 GAA, 0.883 SV% vs. 3.75 GAA, 0.868 SV%) or career (48% win%, 2.94 GAA, 0.909 SV% vs. 46.8% win%, 2.92 GAA, 0.905 SV%), to make the difference between them more than a third-round draft pick, if that, because Demko's contract runs one year longer than Petersen's and is under water ($17 million over 3 years on a $5 million per year cap hit).

I’ll give the benefit of the doubt with the stats. But as a Kings fan I think it’s funny you think LA’s defense is far better. The goaltending hasn’t been good, but the defense has been terrible and most of the goals we’ve given up are not the goaltenders’ fault. I don’t think the defense comparison is a good argument. I’ll agree with OldNYfan above. Maybe Petersen + a third would be the right valuation. But otherwise it would be way too risky for LA to be giving more to a division rival. Remember we got Fiala for a 1 rounder and a defensive prospect. Blake is otherwise stingy with trade valuations and I don’t see a deal like this happening with us giving up another first rounder, particularly in this draft class.

As a concept, I don't mind Stillman to CBJ for a 6th rounder. In reality, it's a race to the bottom and the Jackets are currently winning that race.

Tbh Stillman would help the Jackets in that race to the bottom, he’s pretty bad
