2015: While Matthews is the best player picked by the leafs in the last 10 years, Marner is the best pick (as there was no thinking required for Matthews). Marner is a top 5 winger in the league, and was a great pick by the Leafs in 2015

2016: Best player the Leafs have ever drafted. 2 Rocket Richards, 1 Hart, 1 Ted Lindsay. 60 goal season.

2012: Burke took one of the best players in the draft here, and deserves massive props for taking Rielly after a short season. A great draft pick

2018: In a weak draft, the leafs moved down from 25 to 29 to take Rasmus Sandin, who looks to be a player who should have gone much higher in this draft. While I might argue Liljegren is the better player currently ... the pick of Sandin was a better selection from where they were in the draft.

2017: An easier pick. He was ranked #2 before the 2016-17 season and was the easy selection to make at 17, but is still a great pick here.

Not a Leafs fan but I have to give you Kudos for assessing the drafts the players where pulled from as much as the player himself.
lots of people just rank the players and don't consider weather on not the draft they came from was weaker.
getting a 80 point guy in the top 5 of a deep draft is not as impressive as finding a 50 point guy at 18th in a weak draft.

Yup. Matthews is the best player the Leafs have drafted in the past 10 years ... but it was an easy pick to make, not necessarily the best PICK (which is Marner. A 90 point guy when they could have taken Hanifin, Werenski, Zacha, etc.)

thats the difference between getting lucky (high pick in a good draft) vs scouting talent being able to find the best guy when the team who drafted around you got little to nothing or far less.

Only thing I could argue is that Liljegren is a better D man than Sandin, but Sandin has shown sparks that really impressed me
