Description

I’ll start by saying I don’t follow the Jets, so I have no idea what/if anything has been said about this.

Anyway… With Scheifele, Hellebuyck, and Wheeler expiring, and PLD saying he wants out, would Winnipeg consider a retool/rebuild/ whatever you want to call it, after this season, or come deadline 2024?

No clue where each player would go, or for what, but one would assume you could get the old pick and prospect for each of these players, if not more.

That’s 4 picks and 4 players adding to a young core/prospect pool that includes Heinola, Lambert, and Lucius, while holding on to Connor and Ehlers.

I realize that these players a big pieces of the team, but at some point every team has to turn over and restart somewhere.

Just an idea/thought.

It will depend on how the team does in the playoffs and which guys want to stay around longer.

Just to be clear as this seems to be a common misconception that leads to lowball offers, Dubois has never said he wants out of Winnipeg.

I think the Jets will have a good idea this summer on who may or may not want to extend, which may depend also on how the team fares the rest of the season.

I'd imagine the Jets work hard at re-signing Scheifele and Helly and see where PLD is at. If none are willing to extend, they are probably moved when the most beneficial offer presents itself.

If the jets current success carries over into playoffs, I can see a world where dubois signs for the medium term (3-4 years). Hellebuyck and Scheifele are on record saying that they want to be here as long as winning is the plan (ie not rebuilding) so id imagine resigning them won't be too bad. Even if dubois wants out, the jets will probably trade him like they did Trouba to get help now and a 1st.

I see a scenario with the Jets not knowing the future of the 3 who are UFA after next season that there will be a lot of activity at the deadline and they'll consider this a "Go For it" year spending their 1st and prospects. If there is success in the playoffs, going multiple rounds then forsure I see the possibility of the Jets not going that route and like mentioned above trying to extend those 3 in the 3-5 year range and then going towards the rebuild retool route after that.
