It is highly unlikely Martinook is traded. That trade doesn’t do much for Carolina anyways.

Canes pass hard on that Habs deal. Wifi is a fun player but he's a 7 D. Martinook is on one of the top 10 analytical lines in hockey. Picks should be going the other way.

The Nashville trade makes no sense. Raanta recently has been the better goalie winning his last 6 games and having back-to-back shutouts in that time frame.

Lankinen's been great for NSH. Raanta is older, more expensive, and injury prone. You've got the wrong team adding in that deal.

He is right now, but he's not got the skating ability to be much more than that in a Rod Brind'amour system. He's a fun defenseman to watch, absolutely. But in a system like Carolina where you either have to be perfect positionally or a fantastic skater to make up for it, he doesn't fit either. He's still young, but Carolina cannot develop defensemen in this system for love nor money. Bean, Fleury, Bear, Coghlan all struggle because of it. It's not worth it for Wifi

It'll be a massive steal for the canes, "7th D" he's the 6th youngest regular blueliner in the NHL, leading all rookie defenseman in goals and all 5 younger than him are top 7 picks projected to be first pair defenseman but sure, hes a 7th D at best 👌

He's also got an incredibly high shooting percentage, he's got trouble as a skater, and he's not good positionally. His underlying numbers are absolutely abysmal. This isn't a good player right now. You say he projects 1st pairing, I'd like to know what about a player who is below replacement level in EVERY underlying statistic says projected top pair guy. But sure, projected top pairing right? 👌

he didnt say he was projected top pairing he said the 5 younger dman than him are top 7 pick that project to be 1st pairing. guess reading comp and hockey comp are on the same level. Either way he may only amount to a bottom pair dman but shows more like a 4/5 that could move in and out of a top 4 depending on the depth of the d-core, either way not a 7th dman

He could be a 4/5 in Montreal, but my assumption is that the Habs wanted to be good in the near future. Guess you guys just love being awful up there. He still isn't the most gifted of skaters, he's not the most gifted positionally, he's not good in transition. He's scoring, but that grand total of 12 points is nothing special. He's a fun physical defenseman, he's a 7D on a good team and any team that wants to win will need good skaters, which he isn't as we've agreed. But you know he's a habs player, he must be good!

again no one saying hes a norris candidate here, but theres a big gap between between 7th dman and a 21 year old whose been solid defensively well putting up 12 points and radjusting to the nhl game, he's played half a season still a whole bunch of ways his career trajectory could pan out but having watched the majority of the games he's played in this season i feel very confident and predicting he will be much more than a 7th dman that dressed 20-30 games a season. Most dman dont peak at the 30 game mark of their career....

Except he's not been solid defensively. His underlyings are awful. He's fun but that doesn't mean he's good. The Ducks are fun, they're not good. Wifi is the same. He's physical, he lays big hits, but he's a physical defenseman, a lot like Brendan Smith. Good 7 guy that is physical, will give everything for the team, but should not be playing regularly

sure, and none of his underlying have anything to do with being a rookie dman on a d-core that includes 4 rookies? just agree to completely disagree at this point.

Isolated analytics do not take into account his partners or teammates. They're still bad. Could they improve? Sure. But right now, 7th D man at best.

lol thats ironclad logic. analytics do not take into account key contributing factors but are bad for the first half of his rookie season so 7th dman at best got it.
