bedard would make the TOR-MTL rivalry goated again

Created by: leafs101
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 4, 2023

Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Description
Team would become a buyer of young talent. Cap is tight but clears up quite nicely as the key guys need new deals. Killorn, Jensen, Petersen, Dvorak, Allen come off the books as Slaf, Roy and Guhle need new deals, then Matheson comes off the books the following year for Bedard. All that should make enough room but Anderson's contract also becomes more moveable at the end of the deal if needed. If you can get rid of him now without giving up much just might be easier.

    1 Nashville should say no.

    2 We should say no

3 What on earth? Why is LA even considering that?

4 Savard is not a cap dump.

Vancouver has a better chance and you’d still see it.

think savard is at full 3.5, and LA considers because Petersen has been abysmal and is at 5M with term.

Yea, but it doesn't have the same Battle of Alberta vitriol that Calgary vs Edmonton does. Also, Pettersson is not McDavid.

They'll just bury him for a year and buy him out next summer. They don't need the cap space.

It'll probably take the Hab another decade before they find a replacement of Price.

think once they get good enough they'll be able to attract a good enough goalie via free agency or else by trade. Hard to say that they'll ever see another Price, not many teams can say they've had a goalie of that calibre in their franchise's history.

That offer for Timo Meier is easily beaten, What part don't people understand that Logan Mailoux is a cancer and he can't even play in the NHL right now. Nobody is touching him.

Difference is when the Habs traded Roy, they already Drafted Theodore.
Theodore gets traded after they Draft Price.
Price is retired and the Habs didn't plan ahead, unless you call Primeau the future. LOL

We've explained many times why Petersen's contract is not a problem, so that LA trade is just silly. But if you want Durzi that badly, the Florida first will do for that package.

i'll give some benefit of the doubt on that: while they probably assumed that they wouldn't get value out of all 8 years of Price's deal, they probably didn't think they'd have to find his full-time replacement after just 3 seasons. Primeau's still young enough to turn the page, but they gotta just be patient with him and let him develop without exposing him at the NHL level if they can avoid it.

Primeau (like all of the Habs goalie prospects who are 5th Rd'ers) was a 7th Rd pick.

Obviously the Habs never put any thought into goalies when they had Price.

So, yea, looks like the Habs will have to poach a goalie from another team, like the original poster proposed.

No. LA absolutely does not consider this. Not for the other 2 pieces you want for a terrible pick.

    That’s just awful!

Kings will buyout Petersen way faster than your awful proposal

I want Anaheim to get Bedard, but Montreal is a close second. Seeing a talent that generational in a city as electric as Montreal would be awesome
