Created by: Boojets
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2023
Published: Jan. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If jets keep Dubois and sell him at next year's trade deadline or even in the offseason they will get a large package for him. He's right in his prime, a point per game power forward center. If montreal wants him this is the deal. Do they have to make this trade if the ask is to much... No of course not but they can take the chance that he won't get tempted away from some other team that is far more appealing than the jets.

To jets fans:

The habs are literally going to wait till next offseason and sign him to a contract when he is a UFA. Friedman confirmed again during a recent 32 thoughts podcast that is still what PLD wants to do.

Talk to any one with NHL connections and they will tell you PLD signing in winnipeg isn't the risk for montreal in all this its PLD getting traded to a team that is far for attractive to NHL players (New York, Cali, etc) and also PLD having another year to build on this one making his long term contact even more expensive. People who think they isn't any risk in Montreal waiting are either stupid or but flat-out uninformed. Maybe both.

well it depends on dubois intention, if he says he wants to test free agency, he will get nowhere that returns.

Tbh better off selling him to a team at tdl, habs might get him in free agency, if not, im sure the 2023 center that habs draft, Dvorsky, Smith, Carlsson, Yager will be ready in 2024.

You honestly think that Dubois gets a package anywhere close to that from ANY team? A recent 3rd OA pick, a top performing prospect at the WJC and what may be a top-10 pick? Even if there wasn't a lot of noise around Dubois wanting to be in Montreal?

Good luck with that. That's a far heftier price than even a young established 40 goal scorer with more team control got. Its comparable to what Eichel got.

I think you mean the fanbase that's citing insiders saying that Edmundson could/should get a first.

Just look at what a older worse Andrew Copp and Andrew Ladd got at trade deadlines. But yes totally based on annoying posts.

First when Dach was drafted means nothing. We have years of data to trump draft spot... but if using where a player was drafted than that really hurts Roy's value he was drafted in the 5th round. It works both ways or no way. Dubois if traded at the deadline will be the youngest and best center traded at the deadline maybe ever... Players like ladd, copp, hayes, Stastny all got 1st round picks and multiple other pieces in deadline trades. To think Dubois won't get the jets at least a 1st, good prospect and a 3rd piece is kind of laughable.

Yes they’ll get a LATE 1st, a good but not top prospect and another pick
But you’ll get more quantity than quality IMO

Roy would be a fair prospect but again, MTL are currently holding two top 10 pick so we ain’t giving you what you want. We will sign him in 2024 or he’ll sign somewhere else

And feel free to post any articles from any of the major prospect writers that have Roy as a top 30 prospect. most places have him in the 50-100 range.

Hey I don't think Montreal should trade for him or sign him.. They won't be good for 3-4 years unless they get major draft help and he's an expensive play they don't need. But if the Habs want him that the price. Which is what I said at the beginning.

Also florida won't be a top ten pick... shooting and goaltending have hurt them those will regress and that pick likely settles somewhere between 15-20.

look at whats the most a rental ever got then look at what you are asking out for dubois. nowhere near close. in recent memory hossa was the best rental ever traded, got not even close to what you are asking.

15-20 is still really good tbh, could take a shot at one of the RD prospects in that range, Allen and the such, this draft is deep, and mtl def rather wait for PLD to hit ufa than trade for him as Jets are sure to have a good offer at tdl, a late first and a B prospect is the minimum they would get.

Ya the guy who showed up to Bell centre on the OFF CHANCE he may be traded at the draft is so easily swayed.

He didnt even try to negotiate this summer he literally took the qualifying offer so there was 0 chance the jets could impede his plan.

The only way he isnt a montreal canadien in the 24-25 season is if the habs dont want him

There is literally no logic behind any of this.

You've basically said if the Habs want him they should pay a premium for him. All because he MIGHT get traded to another team, even though every team knows he wants to sign in MTL afterwards.

So the question becomes, why would another team pay a premium for him either? If he is only a rental he likely only gets a late 1st and a good prospect from a contender at the deadline and if Winnipeg is in the playoff hunt then they keep him for a run, then lose him for nothing as a FA.

All in all, Winnipeg fans aren't going to be happy with the ending no matter what they want to believe.

Florida's pick will likely be somewhere in the 10-16 spot.

Honestly the Jets will get for Dubois (if he's traded) the same as Copp and Stastny except the prospect involved will be better then Barron and Foley.

The only relevant consideration with PLD is whether Montreal still wants/needs him when he becomes a free agent.
We don't need him now or next year, so no point rushing out to trade for him. If he signs elsewhere, good for him.
