I think Ned will be traded or waived next and then I expect a trade that shocks us all to finish things up, not even going to speculate on what that will look like, I just have a gut feeling Yzerman is working on something shocking...

Also... the overwhelming disrespect Ras gets on here blows my mind... he has been one of our most consistent forwards all season and 100% has earned a spot in the top 9 (one could argue top 6)

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Ned. 1st star of the game last night for GR. Husso definitely looks worn out from playing so many games.

No disrespect from me. smile But using the stat I used, he's the 4th best center.

Copp and Chiarot are obviously going nowhere. Kubalik has been very good from my perspective.

Sundqvist and Erne are both very meh

Really would like to see this roster healthy (including Vrana, if possible). It's actually quite a nice forward group.

Ditto for Velano. I think the Wings will have excellent center depth for years to come with Larkin, Velano, Ras, Kasper, and Copp. Will they be superstars? Maybe Kasper but having 4-5 very good centers is a luxury.

And yes, I do think Copp will regain his form after his surgery. If not this year than next.

Ya I really like what I've seen from Veleno too, but I did not expect this at all from Ras. Ras looks like a different human.

I think it’s a nice gesture to call Rasmussen a top 9 forward, but let’s just call him what he actually is; a 3rd line Center.

You have to actually generate offense to be a top 6 guy. You can’t consistently shoot pucks at the goalie on breakaways and maintain a top 6 forward status.

Rasmussen’s progression has been admirable. Calling him exactly what he is (3C) isn’t a bad thing. He’s a good player. Certainly hasn’t shown enough to be considered a top 6 mainstay.

I really find it hard to envision Copp continuing to play Center beyond this year full time. I mean, I’d imagine he gets some minutes there situationally but, I think it’s pretty clear he belongs on the wing.

When we signed him, all I could think of is that he’s being brought in to ultimately replace Bertuzzi. I hoped I was wrong and he would pan out at C but, I think we’ve all but gotten confirmation that he won’t.

Veleno to me, is a very unique player. It’s really been fun to watch him visibly improve right before our eyes and I think he might be a guy that at some point will become a star player. Not quite in the way that Tage Thompson has but maybe like a Vincent Trochek type of guy.

right, I think he's filled in admirably when needed as a center, but I think the last few weeks have really proven he's a winger...

Just because he is one of the top 6 leaders in points on a team that is in the bottom half of the league in scoring does not equate to him being a legitimate top 6 forward.

Dominik Kubalik is probably in that top 6 as well - is he a top 6 forward too?

Kubalik has not consistently matched up defensively against other team's top lines... and done it well at that...

Kubalik is a PP specialist which is fine for a 3rd line winger.

I think ultimately, when this team is really contending in 2-3 years, Ras will be a bottom 6 forward. For now, he is perfectly suitable for the top 6 while the team is still building towards that future (and not fully healthy).

Bottom line, he is 10x the player he was when he was drafted, and that's the best thing.

This is correct, and he is ultimately a bottom six winger playing on the top 6 right now and he doesn’t look bad doing it. He also just isn’t a legitimate top 6 forward.

I could see him continuing to improve but I just don’t share the same optimism a lot of fans have in regards to him becoming this legitimate top 6 power forward. I don’t see that happening.

Also, when his team friendly contract is up, he is easily going to garner $4m+ annually and at that point his value is on the poor side.

On a Stanley Cup team, no doubt he is not in the top 6 right now, but we're not a Stanley Cup team yet. In the here and now, he is a top 6 forward on this team and we can't fault him that he doesn't have better competition to beat out. He is still only 23.

As far as his progression from here, next contract value, etc, there is no way to know how that will play out, but it will all sort itself out as it does. Speculating on contract value of a speculative contract cost while factoring in speculative skill progression speculation is, well.......

I mean of course it is all speculation. I’m not saying he shouldn’t play in the top 6 on this team, it’s just that he isn’t of the standard of an NHL top 6 forward. He’s a 3rd liner that is playing in the top 6. Nothing wrong with that, most 3rd liners can play higher (or lower) in the lineup and that is fine. I just like to call a spade a spade.

Michael Bunting is playing on the Leafs top line with Matthews and Nylander. But I'd never say Bunting is a top 6 forward. Scotty Bowman believed in pairs and then using the 3rd forward to compliment them. Like Doug Brown for example. He wasn't a top 6 forward. But he sure meshed with Fedorov and Kozlov.

Babcock played piano mover Abdelkader with Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the top line. We all know Abby Toad was never a top 6 guy.
