Wouldn't trade Coronato for Bert straight up

The Toronto trade is dangerously close, though I'm sure Toronto fans will be asking to add Larkin. In reality, Toronto is getting a great puck moving defenseman who can kill penalties in a pinch and is still young. Detroit gets a late lottery ticket and a prospect that may or may not end up better than Hronek. Toronto gets the better deal now and the next year too.

The Flames deal...I don't know. They are getting rentals. Walman, I love with Seider, and think I'd like him back but not sure the cost or term. I think maybe the first would have to be conditional on Bertuzzi or team success. Coronato is a pretty high prospect last I checked, but Calgary would be getting a top 6 winger that has been missing since Tkachuk left, and also a solid top 4 D.

The Ottawa trade doesn't work for either side. The Florida trade is atrocious in Detroit's favor, and the Dallas trade seems about right.

Except TO doesn't need Hronek at all. Whether it's fair or not is irrelevant.

Yeah, why wouldn’t he? Are you asking if he is good enough to play in the NHL? He is an average young bottom pair defenseman with a 2% chance of being better than that.

I’m sure CGY wouldn’t either. Coronato is going to be a good one.

I can agree with that. I'd also counter that Detroit doesn't need the trade either, as adding another D prospect just makes the logjam even harder to sort out in the next couple years. Hronek 's spot would need filling this year, and I don't know how bad that will be for taking a step back on progress for the remainder of the year. Toronto may not need Hronek, but they still get better. Filling positions of need for a playoff run usually don't result in Cups but strengthening somewhere else often does result in a better chance at playoff success.

All of the trades are designed to favor Detroit tremendously.

I don’t think CGY moves Coronato for anybody. I think he could be playing right now, idk why he’s not signed.

I do think both TOR & CGY will come calling for Bertuzzi at the deadline and that return for Hronek would be ideal for Bertuzzi.

I don’t see Suter getting more than a 3rd (if that).

And as far as FLA goes, since they don’t have a 1st rounder the next 3 years to improve their team in the short term to salvage their disastrous start to their season, it’s an ugly desperation trade to spark their team, albeit super expensive and unlikely.

Toronto could for sure use Hronek, this guy is trippin.

Anyways, Niemala wouldn’t increase the logjam; he’s a RHD. We don’t have any of those worth talking about. Our treasure chest is full of LHD.

could use? I guess. But as it stands we have 7 D that should be in the lineup with the success Timmins has had. Our defensive play has been among the best in the league. And Hronek doesn't bring the physical Muzzin replacement style which is the only reason we'd even consider spending big assets for a D. Meanwhile now we've spent our 1st and our 2nd best prospect on something that isn't a need and have nothing to offer to get a scoring LW.

So yea, no.

Hronek doesn't fill a need though, he's offensive and we don't need that. We have Rielly and Sandin

Would u take Hronek for a 5th round pick half retained ?

Hronek isn’t one dimensional - he is just as good defensively as he is offensively.

Hronek is effectively right-handed Sergachev on a lower AAV contract. Detroit should not accept this trade proposal.

Are you always this cocky about stuff you have no idea about?

The Athletic has a good system of measuring players’ values, you should look into it. It’s called “Player Cards.” Pretty cool actually.

Anyhow, they have Hronek rated in the 90th, 84th & 96th percentile for the defensive statistics putting him in the top 10%, 16% & 4% of the league in each defensive category, respectively.

Idk how to post pictures on here or else I would have just posted the graphic. It also puts his Market Value which is based on his performance this year at $9.6m per year.

I looked at the Leafs defensive core none of their guys have come close to the consistency that Hronek has exhibited so far this year. I’d love to make the effort to communicate that to you with more examples but I think you’d be better off seeing for yourself.

Like I said, it’s a really cool feature they have on their site, they do this for every player on every team.

well of course but I wouldn't spend our most valuable futures on something that isn't really a need

That is better rationality than saying you don’t want a player regardless of value.

Does it only take one year I to account, or multi years?
Last season was atrocious, but he kept to his game, and just had terrible luck.

I think the contract is pretty ridiculous though.

It gives u a 3 year look back but it breaks down every aspect of their game and provides projections for the current season as well. It’s really cool, you should check it out. I think The Athletic is like $1 a month for a few months and then regular price but, I love it. Terrific journalism on there and every team has their own dedicated journalists, awesome reading experience.
