Super Random Weird Idea

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2023
Published: Jan. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is what happens when you smoke too much pot.

FLA rids themselves of that contract the most cost effective way possible, but they'd have to pay anyone to take that anyway. Pens get some futures to use for McCabe.

CHI is getting Bobs for $2.5M, not $7.5. This is second retention.

WOW way too much pot....
I think I would just rather acquire McCabe via CHI and send them Kap.

Yeah, but it cost the Pens less futures because they're using less house money. They basically got McCabe, Boyd and Luostorinen for Smith, Kapanen, McGinn, a 2nd and 3rd. That would be a killer third line.

Sure, but you also are retaining on Bob, which is not ideal for a competitive team. Also really hard to see Bob agreeing to waive twice and ending up in CHI.

Oh trust me. This is completely unrealistic. lol

I just think it's a fair movement of assets and the Pens greatly improve.

CHI doesn't have a void in net, but I like that you're thinking of more than just your own favorite team. So many people make trade proposals on here without thinking of the bigger picture and all the other valuable aspects of trades outside of on ice performance. Even so, I feel like FLA should be paying a higher price to dump him, even at 50% retained.

Isn't Mrazek your only goalie under contract next year?

Yeah. But Soderblom is set to get a full time job in the NHL either by the end of this season or the beginning of next season with a legit shot at taking the starting job from Mrazek. Also, we have a few others in the pipeline that could serve as call ups and there are plenty of other options in fee agency. Soderblom pretty much needs to graduate to the NHL with Commesso and Basse both set to leave the NCAA and go pro this summer or the following. Unless there is a team willing to pay enough of a premium for him to convince CHI to move him, he is CHI's next NHL goaltender.

Ah ok, got it. My thought process was sending you a 2nd to keep Bobs as a back-up for a reasonable price, but I get it.

One thing I forgot to mention in my other reply is I totally agree FLA would have to pay more than that to move him, part of why I lowered the price was them taking Kapanen off our hands and I really like Luostarinen.

Yeah. I get it, plus them retaining the $5M. It's a legit idea. I just don't see anyone doing FLA any favors and they would have to give up too much of their already heavily depleted pipeline and draft picks to get it done.

They're likely stuck with Bobs unless a team gets desparate for a goalie.

Yeah. Probably. But with that Spencer Knight extension, I kind of have a feeling they might be willing to pay a premium to get rid of Bob. Which seems like a dumb move to me, but to each their own.

The sad thing for them is they don't even have the pieces to move to do that. The have no first rounders over the next three years and only two seconds and two thirds. They're definitely going to be in an interesting situation.

I'll still never understand why they were so short-sighted. Knowing they had Knight in the pipeline, they still signed Bobs to that whacky contract. I get it, you can't be sure an unproven player can play until they show it, but to sign Bobs to a seven year contract? What was the point of drafting Knight then?

No team is without one or two bad contracts or trades, but this is one of the worst in the league.

There was an idea I saw earlier that I kind of liked the concept of. Someone proposed Jones for Bob, straight up. Other CHI fans hated it. But if CHI is ready to just move on and cut their losses with with the old CHI regimes mistakes, Bob's contract expires EXACTLY when CHI should hopefully start giving substantial extensions to RFA's and at the very same time there will be available UFA's that could be targets without Jones on the books. Plus, if Bob keeps playing bad, he keeps us low in the standings to keep getting high picks. I know Jones is a HUGE investment for CHI to just toss out the window, but, I think Jones window is now, not later when CHI is ready to compete again.

I think, especially if Jones gets back to playing at a high level, people would be screaming for our GM's head. But in the bigger picture, it almost makes sense. FLA is in no position to take on Jones contract though. Plus they would probably have to add a little something, which they can't afford to do and would be risky for them. So, even that doesn't work. None the less, FLA is in a better position to win within Jones window than CHI is. He needs to be on a good team. This tanking is just dragging him down. And I fear, if this goes on too long, he won't be able come back from it when games start to matter again.

I think that's pretty sound logic, but I think you'd still be able to squeeze something out of FLA. Even if it's just a 2nd or a decent prospect, but yeah, I think that all makes sense.

Yeah. But I'd never propose it in an ACGM. Half the time people don't even read the description. So, my logic could be sound, but their arguments will be at face value. And I don't feel like arguing with a million douche bags. Especially ones from Florida. haha.
