2023 Draft Hopefuls Plus McAllister

Created by: Garak
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 6, 2023
Published: Jan. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Using only the picks we have RIGHT NOW in the first and second round, and estimating where they and the players will be in the draft order.

Might be wishful thinking, but I think there is a decent chance Eduard Sale drops into the later 1st round and Strbak into the early 2nd round.

Either way, a hard working RHD and high end forwards with projectable skillsets should be on CHI's radar. No taking chances on poor skating at this point in the rebuild, either. Not this high in the draft.

McAllister is the leading scorer in the NCAA right now for Western Michigan University, and is an undrafted free agent at 21 years old.

He probably figures Leo will be gone by our second pick.

haven't heard of McAllister until now but his stats are crazy. Have there been any nhl rumors about him?

I think there are a lot of guys who can push to the late first round that I would still be excited about. If we're going off pure record at the moment, Tampa's pick would be at 22. There are for sure a few guys who could fall to there with the rising talent. Brindley, Stramel both played well at the tournament. Yager's stock has been falling a bit relative to his peers. Whitelaw has played well on a bad Phantoms team. Matthew Wood is another college option. If you're looking at defensemen in the second round, I think Strbak might have raised his stock a bit too much, but potentially one of him or Reinbacher could be there. I think it's exciting to see this many draft eligible players succeeding at this level, especially with the means to trade up into another first round pick

Since he's unaffiliated, you probably won't hear anything until the NCAA season starts to wrap up. Since WMU is ranked, they figure to make the tournament, so it could be late March to early April before he's done playing, and then I'd give it another week until he signs. Somewhat unlikely he plays anywhere in the NHL this year unless WMU falls out of contention

EDIT: I didn't realize the season goes until mid april this year. It would be favorable for him to sign an entry level contract this season and burn a year, so it could be likely he plays this year

Yeah. I think Carlsson is gonna go 3rd or 4th overall. But if he does somehow fall that late in the 1st, CHI should ABSOLUTELY snag him.

Yeah. I would think that if CHI does target him, it will likely be when his College season ends. But I set this up for the 23-24 season to illustrate possible draft picks and only decided to add him last minute for the hell of it.

For sure. We can certainly offer him minutes, especially after the figured deadline subtractions, along with the financial flexibility that would come along with allowing him to burn a year off the entry contract and earn a pay day sooner. I would imagine there will be plenty of teams calling after him. There are a couple other guys who I would target like Riese Gaber, but McAllister is the youngest of the bunch and therefore to me the most attractive.

I'd be thrilled if Hawks first 4 picks in 2023 yielded those 4 players! 🤞🤞

Not that it means anything, but I think McAllister has been to prospect camp already w/ Vegas and Toronto. So maybe they'd have an inside track on him? Although he would probably have a faster path to the NHL w/ the Hawks

Yeah. That was my thought too. With most teams he wouldn't have as much of a shot unless he just blows them out of the water immediately. With CHI, he could probably get in the lineup a lot sooner, if not immediately.
