Description
Dont get me wrong. I am 100% on team tank and have been all season. However, the last stretch of games have been abysmal, and I started to see the wheels fall off after Monahan was taken out of the line up.

The problem is that we really only have one good line (Suz, Cauf, Dach), who are actually creative and able to make the other teams opposition guess. Monahan is a similar player, he's not as good as them, but his creativity is there and he elevates the people he plays around. With him as our second line center, teams actually had to worry about which line to defend, which created more space for our top players. Once he comes back, I'm predicting the team will rebound and we will start to have some more wins, which brings me to part 2 of this discussion.

With all that said, I still believe we should trade Monahan as he does not fit with our window, and once we are ready to start competing (maybe 2024/25 if everything goes according to plan), he won't be as effective and we should have someone else in that spot (maybe even Bedard?). Monahan has 17 pts in 25 games so far, and while I'm not 100% sure if we could get another first-rounder for him, I think this injury may slightly boost his value, as teams can see how quickly we fell apart without him. Once he comes back I'm hoping we get a second line of Slaf - Monhanan - Anderson, and let's see what they can do. If they continue to play well, we can move Monahan at the TDL, and start losing every game again to get closer to Bedard.

With all that said, let me know if you are on team keep Monahan or trade him, and if they do trade him, how much do you think they will get?

you 100% trade the guy

Habs can retain half salary to get good assets in a deal (1st + later round pick + prospect), and Habs cap situation is such a mess, we need to dump significant amounts of salary (Drouin, Dadonov, Monahan, and I see one of Hoffman or Armia being bought out)

Honestly, this is the first time I've ever seen someone spin an injury into getting a better return on a player at the deadline tears of joy The fact that it's a LBI, which is where he's previously had a ton of issues, is certainly not a good thing.

Don't get me wrong, Monahan has certainly improved the team a bit, but I feel like it's weird to spin this any other way than "The team started hot because a bunch of guys put up unsustainable numbers, and now the team has come back down to Earth because of it".

But, to answer your question, yes, you trade him regardless of the return. If someone is dumb and offers a 1st, groovy, do it. If someone gives you a 2nd, same deal. Re-signing Monahan is fun and all, because he's played reasonably well on a bad team, but haven't you guys made this mistake enough times already?
