Trade Deadline and Ideal Playoff Scenario

Description
Alright. It's gonna cost a ton to get Chychrun, and this may not be enough. But I don't see the Caps being able to offer much more than this. In this dream scenario, Backstrom, Wilson AND Carlson are activated off IR as well. So to stay under the cap, we need to deal Eller and Jensen. Eller we could send to a team that won't make the playoffs along with a pick... they can retain salary and flip him to a playoff team and get another pick for their troubles. I just picked Columbus... coould be any non-playoff bound team. Unfortunately, we would also have to deal Jensen (we are getting an upgrade on defense after all)... I think his relatively low AAV could earn us a 1st round pick from a playoff-bound team like Edmonton, who need help on defense. We would also need to put Alexyev and Snively on the taxi squad, or send back to the minors... not sure if they're waiver-exempt or not, but some sneaky GM work would be needed there to make it work and not lose either of them for nothing.
Let me know what you think.

Carlson on LTIR and expected to miss months. Should be back for playoffs - no need to trade anyone

Even if Carlson comes back, Caps could make it work by sending guys down

Makes sense. Do you think the Chychrun trade is at all realistic?

I don't think we need Chychrun though... I'd rather add RD depth to be honest

Chychrun or Orlov could play the right in Carlson's absence. Then, when he comes back, We're looking at a team where TVR is our 7th D, which is some incredible defensive depth. With the talk that the caps may be a contender with Wilson and Backstrom returning, maybe we should consider making a big splash at the deadline. The good thing is that Chychrun is much more than just a rental and is an incredible 200-ft defenseman. I don't like trading McMichael alongside multiple first round picks, however. I'd do McMichael, Iorio, a first, and a second.

Would love the trade but can't see it happening. I expect to add a bottom 4 RD. Like the lineup would shuffle the lines some.

I'm fine sending McMike and some picks, but I'd rather keep Iorio considering how thin our defensive prospect pool is...

I think between Chesley, Alexyev, Fehervary, and Johansen, we have enough young D in the pipeline that we’d be okay losing Iorio. Plus, we have a tendency to build our blue line through free agency or trade. It would be great to have another piece like Iorio, but I think if we’re adding a stud defenseman like Chychrun, he’d be a piece I’m okay losing. That’s just my thinking.
