If Guerin really wants to go for it loose idea

Created by: C21
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 6, 2023
Published: Jan. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This isn't a very serious post, all the trades are pretty loose and personally I think the Wild should just stay the course, but IF these guys are available AND the Wild really want to go all in. I think this would be fun to see

I believe the team should have enough cap by the deadline to make this work, do correct me if I'm wrong. This is all in the name of fun

The main idea here bring in a stud center and a good winger for the 2nd line. Move out Hartzy and Dumba for assets, roster and cap space to make it all work, constructive criticism is welcome!

Yes, I know this is a pipedream but it'd be cool to see. The Larkin trade is probably in need of the most tweaking here

Larkin doesn't waive for Minnesota, And Minnesota's not giving up that much for a player they absolutely cannot re-sign. Larkin wants 7 x $10,500,000 on the open market. And Minnesota doesn't have it.

Detroit declines. If you're sending a prospect/young player for Larkin, it's not Lambos.

Larkin getting more money than what Gaudreau got after a 115 point season? Nah.

Don't bank against it, Larkin reportedly wants between $9,500,000 to $10,000,000 per AAV just to remain in Detroit. he's easily getting more on the open market.

Flyers probably want a ‘23 second BUT two seconds in ‘24/25? I’d think they’d accept.

"Easily" Which team do you have in mind? I don't think there is single team who would sign Larkin to 10+million contract.

Looking at other players that have just signed extensions: Hintz, Hertl, Barzal. Everybody has better production, but Larkin should get paid much more. Why is that?

Hintz and Hertls numbers aren't any better than Larkins, Outside of Barzals first season at 85 points he's been trending down since. I agree that Larkin isn't worth $10,000,000+ Just saying don't count against him that he won't get close to it. There has to be some reason why he's not re-signed by now. Talk is that he at least wants the Barzal deal which should be fair enough.

My feeling is that Yzerman will let both Bertuzzi and Larkin go and set back our rebuild another 10 years or so.

Bertuzzi will be traded. Larkin will re-sign for 8 years. It's not July 1st next week.

Leafs would be very interested in Hartman. Checks all the boxes - AAV, term, can play C or wing and fill in for top 6 C injuries while playing top 6 wing, chippy, etc.

It's been reported by insiders that Larkin wants $10,000,000+ on the open market. Elliotte Friedman was one that mentioned it awhile back over the summer.

Well Yzerman has stated numerous times at his pressers, That he has until june 30th to get a deal done. Sounds like neither he or Larkin are in a major hurry to get a deal done here.

A GM would need to come along, And make a major overpayment for Larkin for Yzerman to accept. And Larkin would need to agree with said team. Larks will probably give Yzerman 4 teams that he'd accept a move to. And who says that the can afford him. it's a total crap shoot.

He's having a good season, can fill into a top 6 and it's a deadline deal including retention. I could see him fetching something along those lines. Again, everything here is pretty loose and just for fun

I figured the deal would be quite low. If Larkin was ever available, let alone an option for Minnesota, the deal would probably start with something like Rossi/Ohgren & the 23 1st and then get healthy amount of value added on

I've lost track over my 40 plus years of watching hockey how many times I've heard "This player is gone. He's a UFA. GM won't pay him. Player wants more money. More term, etc."

Then miraculously the player and GM agree to a contract. It's amazing really. Perhaps "The A Team" had it right in the 80's?

"I love it when a plan comes together."

But "Larkin UFA he's gone" gets more attention.

Understandable. Again, pipedream scenario. Rossi & the 23' 1st+ is probably the starting point

It's likely a similar scenario to Hertl in San Jose last year but this is a dream scenario if the Wild do want to go for it all this year

It's not about trading for Larkin to sign him long term. It's about truly going all in if the Wild really do want be buyers at the TDL. Extremely unlikely scenario here

He’s going no matter what. Like I said I think they’ll target a ‘23 second but the offer here is more than fair.
