I don't think you can get a 2nd for Lafferty especially with Tulio. Lafferty is extremely underrated though

No one is giving a first for Toews at this point in his career.

top 32 protection needed for Toews to get a 1st. At least it wasnt the '23 1st.

I'm gonna nitpick here.

For what ever crap I talk about Kapapnen, he's a better player than AA. I think straight up would be fine. I get you think the Pens need to up the ante since you're taking on another year of Kapanen, but a 3rd would be too much. I think straight up is fair, but if the Pens are pressed to give something, a 4th is fine. AA doesn't have a lot of value.

I have a feeling Lafferty is going to get a lot interest since he has term left and has been so reliable for the Hawks, so I can see him getting a better return. What would you think if the picks were for 24 rather than 23?

I don't think so either, but what will the Avalanche trade then? There next 2nd round pick is in '25 and I think the Blackhawks may do it for that, but with the salary retention and the hawks giving up one of their picks for a 3rd team to take some salary, I can potentially seeing the Avs parting with the '24 first. What if the pick was top 20 protected rather than top 10?

Even if Toews were worth a 1st (don’t think he is) and at 50% retained COL doesn’t have the cap space to make it happen because they haven’t been able to accrue cap space because of all the injuries.

How about just make the second a third and Edmonton might Accept because they like Tulio

I think there would have to be a 3rd team in the Toews and maybe even the Kane trades to fit under most contenders cap situations. That would probably be the main reason a 1st wouldnt work because it wouldnt split farely. But maybe something like toews to buff 50% retained for phili's 2nd, toews and 4th to avs 50% retained for thier 1st.

You're wrong about the cap, respectfully speaking. Toew/Kane cap hits without retention at the tdl is 2.4m. Initial retention by Chicago is 1.2m. With all the injuries, I would be shocked if the Avs can't make 1.2m work.

I would do the '25 2nd for Toews

I think Colorado should go after Horvat. Not sure Toews is a big enough difference maker for them.

Thay can't afford to re-sign Horvat and he'll cost too much as a rental for the Avs.

Boston is not trading for Kane. Period. Terrible fit. Exact opposite of what they need. Waste of what minimal assets they have. That being said - hypothetically - they don’t add to deal for Chi to take Smith. Smith’s contract is expiring. He’d only be on Chi for a month and is not detrimental to their cap or payroll as Boston would have already covered 3/4 of it. They take Smith purely to make $ work for Boston in order to get the trade done. That’s how deadline deals work. Be different if he had term or it was an early season cap dump move. It isn’t.

KK > AA. Not sure why Pens are adding.

Domi trade fair. Just not sure they move him. Trying to re-sign.

What are you smoking on that Lafferty trade? You’d be lucky to get more than a 3rd. He’s just a basic spare part.
