Created by: sedin33
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 9, 2023
Published: Jan. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The teams here are place holders. I am focused more on value.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Gardiner, Jake
  2. Nikishin, Alexander [Reserve List]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Take back a contract that expires at the end of this year. Since Carolina is < the cap, Gardiner counts against the cap. This still leaves Carolina more cap space for other deals.
2.
VAN
  1. Zary, Connor
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
3.
4.
VAN
  1. 2023 5th round pick (TBL)

I think Kuzmenko is perfect for the Flames, I don't think Vancouver gets that return from anyone with him getting to chose where he plays next season. If the Canucks asking price is too high then a lot of teams will wait and offer him a deal in the off season, Canucks took the risk on him, if they were good he would likely be there long term but you have to think the dysfunction at least tempts him to test UFA

Gardiner is on LTIR, offloading his contract does nothing for the Canes.

Keep dreaming.

Nikishin is a non-starter for Horvat, Carolina does not have the cap space to take on Horvat, Carolina does not have the cap space to activate Gardiner in order to trade him, Carolina is notorious for trying to avoid rentals at the deadline, Carolina's system is a poor fit for a defensively frail Bo Horvat. I'll give you props for not including Morrow because I would be a lot more detailed with why Carolina tells you to jump into the Orcas mouth, but it's still a pretty easy pass.

Thanks for responding.

In my description, I say that I'm not focused on the particular team for these trades, but the expected value.

So in other words, your perfect deadline is something that won’t happen in a million years. Gotcha.
