don't think it'd cost a first to dump barrie personally, he's only got a year left and he's still useful. at worst he's ghost with one less year and requires a second imo. but the isles aren't taking back that much in cap money when they can get as good or better for mayfield elsewhere

He’s arguably the worst defender in the league. Racking up assists with McDavid and Draisaitl doesn’t make you a 4.5 million dollar player.

so, shane gostisbehere? but seriously, his defensive metrics while not good are not the worst in the league. he's elite on the PP and his offense at even strength has been solid this year too, plus he's notoriously one of the nicest guys in the league. i tried to embed his evolving hockey player card but i can't figure out how, regardless they have him as an 88. using GAR barrie is the best defenseman and fourth best player on the oilers and his negative value comes from his PK ability, but he's a net positive at evens on both ends and a huge PP asset.

Mayfield alone gets us a 1st rounder. Barrie, is garbage...won't take him for anything. He's worst then Romanov on defense and that contract....hell no.

Hawks decline. A 1st 3 drafts away and Bourgault doesn't even get the conversation started for Kane alone, let alone Domi too. Those other 3 pieces don't add any value for the Hawks at all.

Fans' antipathy for Barrie, especially his defensive skill level, is semi-understandable but something has to be done about the Islanders' power play, which is 27th in the League and the worst of any playoff contender. Importing someone from the team with the #1 power play in the league isn't a terrible idea.

yeah i think i'm the only one on here who feels that way but i'm completely happy to bring barrie in for one season in return for mayfield if they can leverage taking on that extra cap to get a first round pick instead of a second. there are much worse guys they could have on the third pair, and he's expensive, but it's just for one season.

Jackets will decline since they will get this years first rounder from someone else for Gavrikov. They'll take JP and his salary if you pay them, though. May be an overpay of the '24 2nd or the '23 3rd but that clears $3million to grab another LD.
