It would be silly for the Islanders team, who might not make the playoffs themselves, to trade their top wing prospect a 1st rounder and a cost-controlled winger for a 31-year-old rental. Especially one who can't seem to stay healthy. If they are going to trade those assets they will go after a Meier or Kuzmenko.

Broken foot O'Reilly won't fetch this kind of return anymore. He's having an awful year, his defensive statistics are all in the gutter which would be his selling point and he doesn't have time to turn around before the deadline after being injured.

Tarasenko has an injured hand and he can’t even get the blues into the playoffs, not sure why the isles would give up any assets for him.

I feel unless things change play wise ROR will get less than people expect. Hes having a pretty bad season and if he does not step it up I dont think a teams gonna offer the package u proposed. As 10 goals and 6 assists along with being a -28 is not great.

Only slightly down defensively and fine at 5v5 offensively. Only real issue with ROR is he’s been a black hole on the powerplay for the first time, ever?? Would wager that has more to do with STL than him. He’s still the Conn Smythe winner and player who scored 12 points in 12 playoff games last spring. Injury is a valid concern, but honestly the rest he will get probably outweighs the concern of his foot (not usually a lingering issue and O’Reilly has no history of injuries.) Jeremy Rutherford reported recently that another team’s scout told him that O’Reilly would fetch a 1st + a top prospect (said likely a recent 2nd round pick who the blues like.)

I’d be a little more concerned with Tarasenko’s return, but he comes back from injury much earlier and scored a bunch in the playoffs last time he came back from a broken hand (9 years ago lol.)

Would t shock me though if Barbashev returns more than Vlad.

That quote for what O'Reilly would fetch came before his injury so it had a built in recovery of his game aspect to it. Without that chance, the price will drop. Now take into the bias aspect of it and that the scout knows who Rutherford's audience is....then you are getting to a real look at O'Reilly's likely return.

Still likely a bit more than what Giroux got

Good luck with that. Giroux got a 1st round pick and a recent top 10 pick. Even the scouts 'likely return' before the injury would be less than what Giroux got.

Regardless of what the broken foot does to his value, I don’t think the Blues are trading him without getting a solid return. And that’s fine if they work towards re-signing at a decent cap hit which would likely need to be lower than his current hit.

I don’t see them taking a return of a late 2nd and an ok prospect, there’s just no reason to. Chances of a pick after 50 hitting are extremely low.

I’d imagine if anything with the rough start the time off with an injury that usually doesn’t have any lingering effects at all may be viewed as a benefit.

Lugging an overmatched Leivo around for two months certainly didn't help his cause at either end. He's also had a lot of time with Schenn, who has often been brutal defensively.

Giroux basically would only go to Florida, O’Reilly has no trade protection. That’s a big deal

So is the strong market among centers. Horvat, Toews, Monahan, O'Reilly. There are a lot of good centers available this year.

Horvat is the big one, Toews and Monahan are nobodies. If you’re serious about winning you’d trade for O’Reilly.

Those nobodies are both having better seasons than O'Reilly while on much worse teams.

Maybe if you believe that skater points and +/- are useful statistics. O’Reilly still with far better underlying data which projects better future success. Plus he has the track record of not being a pumpkin the last few seasons like them. Most of ROR’s “bad” szn is the Blues incompetent 2nd powerplay and awful goaltending.

Fair enough I haven’t seen enough of either yet to fully decide on it
