Deadline

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 11, 2023
Published: Jan. 11, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Combined with “own rentals” of Graves, Severson, Tatar and Haula…this is probably about as far as I could see Fitzgerald going at deadline.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (NJD)
2.
NJD
CHI
Fourth period had NJD linked to Domi (also, Boeser and Tarasenko). Have no idea what Domi’s price is nor how genuine the Devils interest is…but seems plausible enough.
    3.
    NJD
    CHI
And of course, Daneyko loves Domi. So we can hear him go on and on about his bouts with Ty for a couple months.

This is a player I'd consider depending on the price and where we are in the standings. If we are playing well, like .650 hockey, I don't mind spending a 2nd, although I may be more willing to deal prospects like Foote or Bahl before they age out of that level of their game as the Devils have more sure bets for those spots moving forward and better to draft for the next push.

The big fear of Domi is I want to know why his defensive metrics are SOOOO dreadful, as JFresh has him at 1%....

I don’t think we target guys like Meier, Boeser, Tarasenko, etc at deadline. I think we aim for one of those guys over the summer once Bratt is extended. Domi seemed like the right level of investment for deadline. Not really a guy I have thought about until now.

Good question about the defense though.

Make the 2nd a 2023 instead of 2024 and the Hawks probably accept

I'm wondering if we are looking in the wrong place, as not many for-sure selling teams have centers that are in the mold of what I would expect from a 3C, but I do wonder if a team that is going for it might look to upgrade on their 2C/3C and loo to grab Horvat and then trade a good piece that, in that case, VAN looks to move for assets too.

None of the Hawks forwards have good metrics. Hawks have 3 legit NHL D men on their roster, and Mrazek in goal. Domi is never going to be nominated for a Selke, but he's not as horrible as some on here make him out to be.

While I hear you about it being a bad team....CHI is still 22nd in GA, and looking at ANA which has 25 more goals against, their centers are still all higher ranked, even Strome coming in at a whopping 9%.

He normally plays on a line with Kane and Athanasiou, so that might be part of it too.

I'm admitting I'm ignorant on the situation, I don't watch many CHI games. I have seen Kane have some BRUTAL defensive games, so if those two are dragging Domi down, I'd like to see how Domi is with less than useless defensive players.

Can we give Verbeek a call and find out the reply on Comtois? Last year was the year they wanted the breakout and it didnt happen. Unless they land CB it may be a few. Do they continue to wait. For us its a depth big strong guy we can look to take the place of one of the UFAs we dont bring back

The line was put together to get all the offensive zone starts and put up as much points for domi and AA as possible to increase their trade value. And it's worked. If they thought they had any chance at competing this season there's no chance those 3 would be on a line.

How has AA been? In our fast system he might do well, 0.3 per game is meh but the team is a mess rn. Hey ya want Blackwood? But realistically what are returns for Domi and AA

AA is what he is. He's fast. Has some handles. Will get some break away goals. Needs to be heavily supported defensively. Could get him for a mid round pick. Half retained the max I could see him getting is a 3rd.
Domi is just all around better. Heart and soul player. He should get atleast a 2nd rounder half retained.
