Operation Bedard Storm

Created by: areax91
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 10, 2023
Published: Jan. 11, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the 3rd worst record in the NHL, it's clear the Sharks are tanking to keep their hopes of drafting Bedard, Fantili, or Michkov alive. Their top prospects in the AHL to A. give them pro experience and B. to protect their confidence from tanking, so unfortunately I don't see Bords or Gecko getting a call up this season (except for maybe the last game or so). What I do see is the Sharks making trades to A. build draft capital and B. build cap space for breathing room.

Outgoing trade targets:
- Meier (out of contract after this season, and can be dealt to a team looking for an all star wing talent)
- Reimer (out of contract after this season, and should be on a playoff team as a 1B option)
- Megna (one of the few players with a positive +/- rating in the Sharks and would make an excellent depth piece for a playoff team. Cheap contract too)
- Merkley (days an elite prospect are behind him, but he could work out as an offensive D in power play scenarios.)
- Bonino (More of a 3C/4C in his age, but can still play well in defense and is superb with discipline. Has been excellent in playoff hockey, and can still be a valuable depth piece today.)

I also added a (probably unrealistic) trade re: Karlsson. Would Toronto be a fit for him, and how would a trade with them (or another team) look like?

No way the leafs take EK65 even at $7.5M and worsen their cap crunch
