Why does that Ducks trade make any sense for either team involved?

Oilers clear cap, Anaheim gets a more proven player.

CHI will take Janmark OR retain salary, but not both. And even then, a second seems light.

So then just waive Janmark, only 200k stays on the cap

There's no incentive for Winnipeg to downgrade.

Your "more proven player" has 2 more points in basically the same number of games playing on a significantly better team and costs more than double against the cap. I'll be the first to admit that Jones has been on the bad side of injuries for a good part of his career and hasn't panned out because of it, but all I see in this swap is helping the Edmonton cap with very little improvement to the Ducks.

Either Edmonton adds a pick or the Ducks pass.

Why don't you just waive Janmark? Domi should cost a 2nd straight up with no retention or taking any cap back. So, then you want CHI to eat half of his remaining salary plus all of Janmark's too? That is going to cost something.

Because Edmonton needs all the cap they can get. I dont know why fans on here are so greedy lol, since when does it cost something more than a low pick if anything to get rid of a 1.25M cap hit.

It's not just $1.25M though. It's $2.75M that you want Chicago to eat. It's not greed. You just have to pay something to get something. Especially under a flat cap. CHI's GM has been pretty clear that he is going to leverage their cap space and that it's going to cost other teams. Also, retention slots are a finite resource. Every team only gets three of them.

I dont know if you remember, but Chicago was bent over a barrel for cap space multiple times during their dynasty years. It's just the way things are.

You mean like how he basically took on Mrazeks deal for nothing? Or gave away Debrincat for 50 cents on the dollar? Thats him leveraging cap space lol?

Even if Korchinski becomes a superstar, and even considering that that was not just any 1st round pick but a 7th overall, I will never understand why he didn't push for more. And i'll never understand how moving up 8 spots, or however many, was enough to help TOR with their cap issues. But oh well... That was last year and was a different step in the process. That was the tear down and posturing for tanking. I'm referring to his language surrounding this year. He has talked openly about taking on bad contracts, but not doing it for "just anything". Getting a 2nd to take Dickinson was pretty damn good, I'd say. Especially since he has been really solid since coming to CHI.

Edmonton definitely declines the WPG and MTL trades. The other ones are pretty men, they don't move the needle much.

All in all you've got an unrealistic 20-man roster and you've sent down both Holloway and Broberg, neither of whom should be sent down. Broberg has been fantastic the past couple of weeks and Holloway has been coming on too.
