IF we were trading Matt Roy for Ivan Provorov, we probably wouldn't be adding an A prospect and we certainly wouldn't be adding a first-round draft pick. And you'd have to offset some cap, too. And the cap problem only gets worse if you take Roy out of the deal -- you'd have to take Cal Petersen or retain 50%, neither of which is likely to appeal to you.

Note to all: retaining on Provorov is especially problematic because his contract is so under water -- he's owed more than $17 million over his last two seasons.

Do you really want to retain on Hayes for 4 years? I would want more than the return simply for having a 3.5 million hold on my cap for 4 years. I'm not saying Colorado should trade more (they shouldn't), I'm more saying retaining for long deals is dumb.

Philly should be all over being paid to take Petersen back. This team should be nuked so two years of a ****ty deal probably fits their timeline

If it's true that they may buy him out (weird, I know, but Torts...), then a trade with 50% retention is preferable for Philly. No one is trading that for Hayes though, even with the retention. And that's coming from someone who likes the guy more than most.
