This would be great if SJ was dumb enough to make that trade and Reilly was willing to move all the way to SJ to play for a worse team.

Yes basically this. SJ declines.

The Leafs offer is low here. How I would suggest a closer fantasy trade would be:

Meier, Timo (no retention)
for
2023 1st round pick (TOR)
2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
Robertson, Nicholas

Karlsson, Erik
**FOR**
Rielly, Morgan (he's gotta waive his NTC for Leaf fans right??)

Karlsson's ($2,000,000 retained x 4 years)
**FOR**
2024 1st round pick (TOR)
A Leaf's RHD Prospect

****************

I would look for a 3rd team to retain $1,000,000 x 4 years on Karlsson for a 2023 3rd round pick (Ott) which is valued the same as a low 2023 2nd round pick

Now that is reasonable and well thought out. Please return you Leaf fan card to the man at the door on the way out.

You don’t sound like a TOR fan. this is reasonable and would help both teams! I would really want Knies and 23 1st for Meier but that might not be reasonable.

You might be right with wanting Knies. Watching Knies and Robertson (admittedly only a few times) combined with what I read by analysts I think Knies is still a huge unknown where Robertson is more of a known entity.

Knies hasn't really broken out and dominated this year in the college ranks as expected but is 6'3" and has lots of potential...unrealized mind you...but enticing potential none the less. I think he is still only a lottery ticket at this point...despite the hype.

Robertson OTOH is somewhat known at this point. He is a small player with a good shot, offensive awareness, good skating, physically engaging and a developing defensive game. He might top out as a "Colin Blackwell" but with Robertson's hockey IQ and skill we could look at other small players that he MIGHT be able to match. DeBrincat, Caufield, Garland, etc My fear as a Leafs fan if we trade Robertson is that he hits the ceiling some are predicting but with another team. If Meier helps us win a Cup now...or at least a round (groan)...I believe it is worth mortgaging a bit of the future.

Those smaller players you mentioned are far above Robertson potential, he has talent but can’t stay healthy i would predict his best season tips out at 15-20 goals 20-30 assists.
