For BUF fans that want to trade Mitts andor Olofsson

Created by: worldwidesensei

Description
Lots of BUF fans want to trade away Mitts and Olofsson. But most posts here want 2nd round picks back in return, which have almost zero value. Here is a trade where we get proper value for the 2 talented players.

Why BUF trades:
Add proven vets that have over 100+ games in the playoffs, that have contracts that will not block the prospects that should be coming up in the next 3 years and creates a F spot for Savoie next year if he doesn't stay in juniors. They add a solid D-man that can help their young D-men develop. He can play on the 2nd or 3rd pair, solidifying their D.

Why NSH might do this trade:
From an outsider's point of view, NSH is a team that is going nowhere, slowly. They shed a significant amount of cap space in this deal, which they can use to add more pieces. Mitts and Olofsson can contribute offensively and help the PP tremendously and they often play on a line together, so if NSH can find someone that meshes with these 2, it will be a formidable line. Both players are cost-controlled and NSH can just as easily ship them out for draft picks or different players. Finding suitors for Duchene and Ekholm won't be easy for NSH given their AAV and contract length. Here they get rid of both in one fell swoop and get much younger in the process.

** If NSH wants a D-man in return, BUF would send you Bryson for a 3rd in this deal. **

The one that went to Colorado and became Byram

That pick is certainly looking like a good one. He still has only played 59 games. Do you think someone is giving up the 4th overall pick for Ekholm? I mean, good on NSH if they get that return. The best they could hope for is what happened to COL.

COL made that trade in Nov 2017. In 2019, it ended up being #4 overall.

Are you suggesting NSH trade for a 2024 or 2025 1st round pick? Then they wait and hope it becomes a #4 overall pick?

I mean, that's a big gamble.

And yea, it's been almost 4 years since he was drafted and he still hasn't played 82 games. Maybe he gets there by the end of the season.

It's a better gamble than Mittlestadt

Look. You can try stretching like Elastagirl, by no metric is Olofsson one of the top goal scorers in the league. OBVIOUSLY.

He's now 15th in G/60. Is that enough to say he's one of the top goal scorers for you?

Really? The guy has yet to top 20 goals in a season. I can't believe we're still on this. No Sabres fans have backed this wild assertion, man.

Mitts has been playing real good hockey for awhile now. Past 15GP:

Tage 9pts 5v5 (2.55 P/60)
Mitts 9pts 5v5 (2.76 P/60)

56.27 CF% (1st on the team)
52.38 GF% (8th) - Fitzgerald and Asplund are higher with 6 games played.

If that's really, really bad at hockey, I wanna know why.

Oh well, if he has a local nickname, that changes everything. Why didn;t you mention that from the start? tears of joy

Look... there are 61 active NHL players who have averaged at least 21 goals per 82 games AND have scored a minimum of 200 goals, which means they've been doing it for years. There 18 players who've averaged 30 goals per 82 games and again, with at least 200 career goals. This will be the first season Olofsson cracks 20 (presumably).

Olofsson has 72 career goals, and nearly half of them have come on the power play. Last season, he had fewer even strength goals that Justin Faulk, Garnet Hathaway, Rem Pitlick, Sean Kuraly and Travis Boyd (a ka a Dman and a bunch of 4th liners). He's a good goal scorer, especially a man up. In no way, shape or form should anyone ever confuse him with being "one of the top goal scorers in the league" at this time. How is it even possible this needs to be said once?

But whatever, man, Enjoy your custom reality.

Have fun living in the past. I'm talking about who scores goals now. I guess you think Gretzky is still a leading goal scorer.

There are 384 forwards if we consider 12 X 32. He's tied for 43rd now in goals. That's top level. Keep ignoring reality.

I mean, do you honestly think people would call him Goalofsson if he didn't score goals.

And since when do PP goals not count?

And if you know anything about the Sabres, Olofsson was nursing an injury last year. He kinda needs to be healthy to pull off his lethal shot. I won't hold it against you that you didn't know that.

And I'm not sure about your math skills. Olofsson scores .31 goals per game, which equals 25.42 goals in an 82-game season. He has only played 229 games, so setting the bar at 200 goals is kind of ridiculous.

I suppose your random stats of 61 players include guys like ROR. Who has 250 goals, but only 10 this year. How embarrassing to think ROR is a better goal scorer than Olofsson.

Kind of funny. ROR after 236 games had 39 goals and you're ripping on Olofsson for "only" having 72 after 229.

I'm not ripping Olofsson and I never suggested ROR is one of the top goal scorers in the league. No matter how many desperate, flailimg straw men you throw out, NOBODY is going to agree with your assertion.

1 - I haven't dismissed my own assertion. Not even sure how you figured such a thing, but then you do have quite the imagination. squinty smile

2 - Everyone's silence here and ALL media silence speaks plenty, but honestly this one is so obvious I feel no need to court opinion. Nobody ever says this. Nobody but you thinks or has thought he's an elite goal scorer at this or any other previous time. Because duh. As hot as he's been the last two weeks, nobody will or has ever confuse him with the Pasternaks and Ovechkins and Rantanens and Robertsons and Draisatls and Stamkoses and Kaprizovs and Tkachuks and Matthewseseseses of the world. Because duh. They wouldn't even confuse him with the Connors and Forsbergs and Debrincats and Guentzels. He's a poor man's Mike Hoffman. Which is fine for what it is. But let's be real. Or don't. I've run out of caring about this silly topic. Have a good one.

1.) You mentioned 61 players. Presumably, if you did your math right, ROR is included.

2.) He has more goals than Debrincat, 1 less than Stamkos, more than B. Tkachuk, 1 less than Forsberg. Same amount as Guentzal. Hoffman has 7 goals.

I think you are really bad at numbers.

Stamkos 18
Forsberg 18
Olofsson 17
Guentzal 17
B. Tkachuk 15
Debrincat 14
Hoffman 7

Because, duh. He certainly doesn't fit in that grouping? Are you daft?

Dude. How is this not embarrassing? Top 48? Top 96? That is not considered a top goal scorer. OBVIOUSLY. "One of the top goal scorers in the league" is maybe top 10 or 15 or even 20. Not 48. Not 96. Not 16 goals in a season. Nobody thinks Marner and DeBrusk and these guys are top scorers in the league. Like... what are you missing here? I'm not mad, I'm genuinely baffled.

Not top 20 yet, but he's top 24 now. And he passed your magical more than 20 goals in a season, with plenty more games to go smile
