Keep Cat get Durzi

Description
Does LA do this?
If we resign Cat, we should make an aggressive play for Durzi. Odds are we don't make playoffs and we don't win draft lottery. So we're giving up a 10-15 draft pick for a quality top4 RHD that fits our budget. Otherwise we have about $1.5M-1.8M for UFA Dman which buys a J Holl, TVR, or L Schenn and that just won't cut it.

It's probably 10-15OA. Assuming it's traded after the lottery. We need to find a top4 RHD on a good value deal for next year.

That's a really broad way of looking at it. I highly doubt an offensive dmen like Durzi is what Ottawa needs.

Also on a side note it will absolutely cost more to dump Zaitsev than a 2nd

Zaitsev is only getting paid $2.5 next year after bonus. I won't cost more than a 2nd.

LA is not a seller. You would need a third team to come in with a significant upgrade on LD or be willing to part with Chabot. Otherwise Durzi is not available.

First, Pinto is signing minimum 3.5 mill. Second, this absolutely screws you when trying to sign Sanderson the following season. Third, I am willing to bet that Ottawa's draft pick is in the top 10. Finally, I also think that the player drafted with Ottawa is wayyy better than Durzi. On top of that, Durzi walks when he hits FA

How much he is owed has nothing to do with the demand for cap space being so high.

1. You can probably sign Talbot for slightly over half of what you're paying him here.

2. Ducks and Kings both decline.

Pinto is not signing 3.5 unless it's a longer deal.
It will not handcuff other RFAs. We have more cap relief once buyouts expire after 2023/24.

Talbot can easily get $2.5 on UFA market.
Maybe they do, maybe they don't. 10-15OA is a nice return, and they have a lot of RHD coming up.

10-15OA. They need good players now, Not in 3-4 years.
Durzi's an RFA at end of current contract.

Didn't realize Durzi is an RFA but he'll still want big money. Ottawa is on pace for the 9th overall pick and could potentially move up from there. To add on, you can flip this player, if you hit, for much more than Durzi or Durzi+

There IS a scenario in which I could see us doing this deal: IF the most-highly-rated LhD were projected at the Ottawa pick level (12th overall or earlier), I would pull the trigger on this one.
I'm probably in a minority of one amongst our Kings brethren on this one.

Lol ok so let me get this straight. One of the like 4-5 teams in the league that aren't right up against the cap ceiling next year are just going to casually help Ottawa out instead of charging premium because he's owed 2.5M? Bottom feeder teams are going to have no issue reaching the floor next year so explain to me what their incentive is for helping Ottawa. In the case of Anaheim assuming both Terry and Zegras get contracts around 8M that puts them at ~56M and 14 players under contract. The cap floor will be about 62M so with just filling the last 9 roster slots they can easily reach the floor
