This team is a legit mess

Created by: CapFriendlysFinest
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2023
Published: Jan. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Saying this in the nicest possible way. What the hell is going on in Vancouver? A player rushed back too soon from an injury is now going to miss the entire season. Players actively calling out management, coaches and teammates. Awful contracts from both past and present mangers. Captain about to walk away from franchise because GM decided to sign a cry baby who yells at his goalie. Honestly, I would try to tank as hard as I could this season to get a chance at a special someone. Wink wink. And I legit mean, blow it up.

Horvat should have been extended before Miller for a 7x7. What he is asking for now is unrealistic meaning trading him is now the only option.

Hughes has been amazing offensively however, he is a viability on the back end. His offence can be replaced over time, so sell high while he is young.

Kuzmenko has been everything we've asked for, but he won't resign with a team with his many problems. At worse, he turns into just a first rounder which is great.

Boeser's value is currently too low for a trade. Van will lose any deal they move him on currently. Best to keep him on the team and have him try to regain some value.

OEL is negative value. No team will want him in his current state. He stays

Miller is a great player, horrible leader. No one will touch his new contact starting next year. He stays.

There are alot of valubeable pieces on this team with no currently market, so holding on to them is the best bet. Trying to build this team around Petterson and Miller will be the future goal. With Demko in net, they have the pieces but they need to get a proper president, GM, coach and for the love of god, someone get Miller some anger management classes.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Dewar, Connor
  2. 2023 1st round pick (MIN)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Van gets back a lot of value for a player who never has surpassed 65 points (until this season) That being said, he will be missed in the locker room and else where.
MIN
  1. Horvat, Bo ($2,750,000 retained)
  2. 2024 5th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Horvat is having the best season of his career and the value has never been higher for someone of his skills. He would greatly help out a Min team that could use a better center.
2.
VAN
  1. Durzi, Sean
  2. Petersen, Cal
  3. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
  4. 2023 3rd round pick (PIT)
  5. 2024 1st round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Van gets alot of return back for Hughes. Durzi will take up where Hughes left off. Petersen comes back for cap reasons but again, 2 firsts a second and young defence back makes sense.
LAK
  1. Hughes, Quinn
Additional Details:
Hughes has been the main focal point of this deference for years but he has never had to able to place shut down D. I know everyone would love to see him in NJ but there is no room / no point with the prospects the Devils have. LA gets a young, super star to play along side Doughty. With Clarke up next year, LA's defence will be scary.
3.
VAN
  1. Ovchinnikov, Dmitry
  2. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Van gets yet another 1st back for the upcoming deep draft. Ovchinnikov comes back for contract seasons/value
TOR
  1. Kuzmenko, Andrei
Additional Details:
Kuzmenko gives the Leafs so much needed scoring depth. At nearing a point per game, I feel he's more a product of his line mates but hes adds much needed depth for the Tor.
4.
VAN
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Rather not lose him for noting. Late 3rd
EDM
  1. Schenn, Luke
Additional Details:
Strong, heavy hitting defence for Edmonton. Helps slightly but lets be real, Edm will need more than Schenn for a deep playoff run.

I'm not sure a team will be willing to go in on Kuzmenko like this. Guy is shooting 24% and thats just begging for regression if he moves.

TOR can't afford a 1st for Kuzmenko-- not a fit for current needs. Cap & scoring depth is nice, but could be better served elsewhere.

Horvat having his best year of his career the year before becoming an UFA sends some red flags up to me. Never a big fan of buying high on a guy.

I disagree depending on what teams offer for him. If there is a package that is too good to pass up, I'd take it.

Hagel was shooting at 22.3% when Tampa traded for him last year and he wasn't close to a P/GP like Kuzmenko. He did have term unlike Kuz tho

I think it would deff be a deal that favours the Kings and would likely be a deal that Van does not due. I just think Hughes is a great piece but one that can be replaced. Often teams who keep their offensive young regret it when they get a long term deal or lots of cash (Klindberg, Reilly, Nurse, ETC).
