Byfield isn't an Yzermn-type player IMO. Larkin is.

Larkin is a great player but pending UFA's simply do not have that type of trade value

Stop with the Larkin to LA crap, Yzerman has stated numerous times that he has to June 30th to get a deal done. And yes a deal will get down. Right now Byfield looks more like a bust than a legit top 6 forward. Larkin will not go to LA with his family and future wife in Michigan. He's already stated numerous times that he wants to be home meaning Detroit or close to it. Sorry but LA is over 2,400 miles from Detroit.

LA is a very desirable place to be and the Kings are a great organization to play for. Nearly every player on every team speaks glowingly about and publicly states a preference of playing close to home and/or staying with their current team. Those kinds of things are to be taken with a grain of salt.

I do agree with you on Byfield tho. I’d rather extend Larkin than take this deal. Brandt Clarke on the other hand, I’ll gladly accept.

I’ll never stop . Ill keep doing it since it seems to bug you so much ... funny cause i just heard a few podcasts saying if hes not signed by trade deadline yzermans got to move him. Byfield’s 20 . Calm down... could be worse things than living in sunny los angeles, wouldnt pay too attention to whats said . Gaudreau also wated to be close to home and ended up in columbus

We’d need a center back , kings would have first 3c’s set as well . Makes sense ... think ppl are calling byfield a bust way too quickly. If larkin was gone he’d have way more opportunity in detroit to play , even with larkin there since copp isnt a C but your not gettint byfield without larkin imo

Should and will are 2 completely different things. Tkachuk is the only sign and trade in NHL history and that's because Calgary was the only team that could give him 8 years of term at the time of the trade. with rentals that is not the case. A GM will loose a lot of business if he refuses to let the players agent talk to the team prior to a trade so it's almost an unwritten rule to allow pre trade extension negotiations with the new team.

Im well aware which is why i mentioned it since the team thats trading the player is the only way that player can get that 8th year in a deal ... The tkachuk trade completely escaped me . Maybe its a sign things will change so i dont think its against the realm of possibility that someone like a larkin can be dealt at a deadline with a sign and trade provided hes happy with the destination and money.

I do think we might see more sign and trades in the future . It also gives the team trading the ufa to be more in a return

Not true at all. If Detroit trades Larkin the receiving team can 100% sign him to an 8 year deal. The only ways a player can't be signed to an 8 year deal is if they are already a UFA or they are traded after the TDL (before hitting UFA ofc). That is why Fiala was only signed to a 7 year deal because that was the max term LA could give him, whereas Hampus Lindholm was signed to an 8 year deal

Cant see yzerman trading larkin before the trade deadline, enabling him a chance at a 8 year term but you never know
