I do think he is around a 3rd round pick, but the Lightning is not the team that would want him as they can get a Quality Vet for Cheap or Bring up Hugo from the AHL

True. They could sign someone like Craig Anderson if he doesn't retire or a Jaroslav Halak

Gus isn't a player I'd trade (unless he needs too much money). If Wallstedt has to cook another year in the AHL until MAF's contract is done, so be it. MN has been questionable in goal since they lost Harding (maybe a year of Dub). There is nothin behind MAF, Gus, and Wallstedt for goalies in the organization.

If Wallstedt needs another year in the AHL, then yeah, don't trade Gus, but, if he's ready, then you could trade Gus.

Filip Gustavsson leads the league in GAA (1.69) and is top 5 in save % (.938) since November 19th. He has been fantastic for Minnesota and is making Dorion look like an idiot.

Why in the **** would we move him?

Even if Wallstedt is ready for NHL action as a backup next season, he can be kept down in the AHL for a extra year and be allowed to overbake. Which is never a bad thing with prospects.

Wallstedt is only 20 years old.

Gustavsson is 24, and is arguably taking Fleury's role as starter, this season. Keeping him as the future 1B and the potential of a Wallstedt/Gustavsson tandem is too tempting of a scenario for Minnesota to ignore. Our goaltending at the NHL level would basically be set for the next decade plus.

A little common sense, please, people.

That's idiotic.

Gus has all the makings of a Wallstedt/Gustavsson 1A/1B tandem for 10+ years. 🤦‍♂️

Key Word "Has" And with his SVP% and G.A.A, it could very much fall off. There is still half the season to go. This is only his first full season. I just don't trust him yet.

Again, 24 years old.

The simple fact he's showing this much promise, this early, is something you invest in. Not trade.

Furthermore, he's on a team that is historically built to be a goaltenders best friend. And that will routinely make them look like Vezina contenders. Remember Dubnyk?

Both Gustavsson and Wallstedt play a style of goaltending that is predicated on positional play and being square with the puck. Same as Dubnyk. The defense in Minnesota is tailor made for this type of goaltender. This is why Talbot also did so well in Minnesota. It's also why the team does less well with Fleury, and his penchant for rebounds the team can't always account for.

Fleury does however bring the locker room aspect to his game and been a extremely positive influence on Gustavsson so far.

In essence, both Gustavsson and Wallstedt fit Minnesota's system to a Tee.

That is true that they have had great goalies in the past before.

The Wild have $16M in cap space this offseason to sign 7 players.

The Deadcap of $14.7M that the team has the next two seasons drops to $1.6M after the 25-26 season for 4 more years.

Boldy will need to be bridged, as he likely takes up a 1/3 of what's available. But both Addison and Gustavsson will be prioritized over everyone else and can easily be fitted in.

Boldy, Addison, Gustavsson > => everyone else.

Wallstedt is in the first year of his 3 year ELC and that isn't due up until the deadcap will drop.

In short, the team can easily AFFORD BOTH GOALIES inspite of the deadcap until it becomes more manageable and the team regains $13M in cap space.

Minnesota will use that cap to sign Leon Draisaitl and go all in on a cup run, note this does not included Marco Rossi, or Wallstedt or any other dude who ended up really good and is a RFA who will see the cap drop and say "Pay me". Cap will prob be up to 87M in 2025, Plus you have Kaprizov you need to play for 2026, Combine that with the fact Gustavsson had his best season during a contract year after having one of the worst season a goalie has had last season, I only see Minnesota giving him a 3 year deal and trade him after year 2. (If they keep)

Also would rather potentially make one of the best Duo in NHL History with Draisaitl and Kaprizov than pair a maybe future Vezina winner in Wallstedt and a maybe one season wonder in Gustavsson

In the meantime, Calen Addison signs that contract on 3 years, not 7
