it's a creative workaround for a karly trade. but i don't see Grier ever doing this. Lebrun tweets about Karlsson maneuvers for clicks but the reality is Karlsson is very likely to finish that contract in SJ. there's almost no way Benn ok's a swap to SJ even with the promise of moving him again, which involves SJ retaining even more cap. very unrealistic, albeit creative proposal.

The problem is Karlsson age . Rarely do teams trade any of their best best prospects for a guy over 30. Getting good prospects is possible but their best is something else. You might get 3 1sts but it’ll be a similar trade to what u gave up (back then) for Karlsson

If the Blues get a second in return for Barbashev, that's probably fair. I don't think they'd be disappointed. I do think there will be enough interest around the league for them to get the same offer from someone not in their division though.
