Trade Deadline

Created by: CuyahogaKid
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2023
Published: Jan. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Domi, Max
  2. McCabe, Jake
  3. 2023 5th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Domi is acquired for his work in the faceoff dot (56%) and to place on the second line with Cozens to get more production and experience next to their point per game second line center. Domi’s grit would also be a fit on Cozen’s line. Quinn and Peterka will rotate into that second line spot and will battle with Krebs for NHL time. McCabe is the ideal add. All the Canadian teams are rumored to be on his no trade list, and he might be willing to return if the team is still competitive by the deadline. .
CHI
  1. Asplund, Rasmus
  2. Weissbach, Linus
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (PHI)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (BUF)
2.
ARI
  1. 2023 5th round pick (BUF)

Chicago may accept the 2 2nd round picks but want better forward prospect(s) rather than those 2 journeymen. No need for Chicago to give up their 5th round pick either.

It'd be tough to get domi and mccabe without giving up a first. The other pieces in the trade definitely don't add much of any value.

Weissbach at almost 25 y.o. is hardly a prospect anymore. Replace him w/ a real prospect like Bloom or Nadeau and Hawks would at least consider. Asplund is a decent bottom 6'er, but doesn't really move the needle in any trade.

This is a case where people think a trade is more attractive if you pile on more middling assets when really it isn't.

Domi on his own (with retention) is likely to fetch a 2nd, and if CHI seriously shopped McCabe with his reasonable cap hit I'm pretty sure they could do better than the rest of that package. Frankly if they can't get a 1st or equivalent I don't see why they'd move McCabe at all.

I priced both as second rounders. The Hawks will for sure try to get a first for Domi, but I think it’s going to be very difficult for a rental forward unless it’s one of the big names. There’s too many assets on the open market that teams will reserve their firsts for, especially with a strong ‘23 class, teams will be hesitant. To get a top 40 pick for Max Domi, I think it’s a fair return. McCabe does have term, but he’s a decent #4, great bottom pair on most teams, and not a lot of teams have the cap space to take on his contract. I think he is also very much worth a second rounder, and that’s a good return for a couple UFA signings over the past two years.

Weissbach was just meant to be a throw in to take a look at. And I think he’s worth a look on some teams. But sure, you’re right a younger prospect probably makes sense here. Bloom, Nadeau, maybe even Kisakov. That’s more than fair.

I don’t agree with a lot of the moves i see u make….
BUT
these make A LOT of sense imo

I’d be thrilled to get McCabe back here,
& think he’d be a perfect fit to help stabilize the 3rd line
GREAT idea sir

Domi could make some sense too
Even if Quinn-Cozens-Peterka get going again, Domi could work between Mitts & Olofsson if they don’t get moved at all
His faceoff wins & feisty play could be a nice addition to the lineup
If we don’t trade for him, I’d look at him as a UFA in the summer

Still might like another move or 2, but
Nice job here sir

Buffalo doesn’t need any salary retention, so they won’t ask you to take any. They have several second round picks to play with, and I don’t think you get more than two pretty high second rounders for those two. I would also rather give up Mittelstadt over Apslund, and I would imagine Chicago would be happy with either one of them.

I like McCabe but for a first rounder or two seconds there are better quality left d. Gavrikov younger and on way up and only slightly more expensive and many more i think

It’s McCabe & Domi though
And i didn’t comment on what it would supposedly take to get them, bc idk what’s accurate there & too many here waste time arguing about that nonsense
Obviously i wouldn’t wanna overpay, but if the cost is reasonable then both those guys make sense for us

Domi good player and ufa. Overpayment not needed. For what fans base McCabe there are better options. If Murphy and McCabe could be obtained reasonably im in but if costing big draft picks id throw a package at Vegas for Hague and Korczak. Then sign Domi as ufa. A good right d like Mayfield and we’re solid

Vegas isn’t gonna trade players who don’t cost much
There’s limited teams we can poach from- Chicago is one of them
And again, i said not to overpay

Look at Tampa next year. They’re cornered. There’s some deals needed there. You can only poach from Vancouver Chicago Columbus because they want high draft pics. They don’t want players. Just firsts and seconds. It’s Bedard fever. Arizona wants the world. Vegas pretty capped and might deal for goal scorers and good players with 50 percent retained. If Boston goes big like Horvat and keep Pasta there has to be good players going out (Carlo??)
Theodore a crown jewel
