Think that’s a pretty big overpay by Detroit especially taking back the whole Karlsson contract

The contract, plus already having Seider, Detroit just doesn't need Karlsson or that cap hit.

Detroit says ABSOULTELY NOT!!!

Karlsson hasn't played more than 60 games in a season since the 2017-18 season when he was still in Ottawa. Then you have his $11.5M cap hit for the next 4 seasons. He turns 33 before the end of the season. I don't think it's a good idea to add a delicate player with a cap hit of $11.5M until he is 37.

San jose keeps 18% of the cap and a superstar wouldn't be bad for the development of Seider 🤷🏻‍♂️

But if they did retain $2.07M for 4 more seasons Grier might be fired. Since he is already retaining $2.72M for 3 seasons on that awful Burns trade. I don't want that to happen Grier is a Detroiter I want to see him succeed. As far as Seider development goes, that is why Yzerman brought in Leddy last season. Seider is already one of the best dmen in the league. Besides their playing style isn't all that similar Seider would throw hit instead of swinging his purse at him.

The Red Wings will need too much available cap space to re-sign Larkin this summer, Seider to an 8 year deal in two summers, and anyone else currently needing raises in a few years, plus any other additions when they get into playoff contention and start buying deadline help.

Seider doesn't need a guy like Karlsson as a mentor. Certainly not for 11.5m for that term!!

This is bananas. Love karlsson playing well but at that age and contract you just aren't getting that kind of return.

I like Karlsson, but at that price no way. 11.5 million is a huge chunk of cap and nothing says the cap is going up by leaps and bounds. Wings have Larkin this year and Sieder and Raymond in 2 years while also trying to field a good team. Yzerman has preached two things since taking over, patience and flexibility and this kind of trade goes against both.
