Can’t see the jackets trading korpi for that. Would rather just keep him at that point

Wings might do that. Term washes out and Vrana seems like a lost cause now, at least in Detroit. Hard to say though without really knowing what's going on with him

Detroit declines, we have no reason to trade Vrána at this time.

Korpi might be one of the best pending-UFA goalies on a non-playoff team. His recent play is increasing his value, so I don't think that'll be enough (especially because CBJ are looking for quality not quantity). There's not a lot of sense in keeping him for the Jackets though, Tarasov and Merzlikins are for better or worse the goaltending duo going forward, may as well sell anyone with value for futures.

Yeah you nailed it. My biggest issue is taking back desmith. Tarasov should be up full time next year. Between the cap dump, retention, and trading korpi I just don’t see the point in this small of a return. Gavy and nyquist are most likely using 2 retention slots so this would be their third. They could be a third party retention and get a better return without taking in cap beyond this year

If we’re taking DeSmith back, I’d probably ask the up the 4th and 7th to like a 3rd and 5th or something, but I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Worst case, I think DeSmith would survive waivers, so I’d just send him down to CLE, keep him around as insurance/training camp battles. If someone claims him, whatever.
