Torn on this one to be honest. I voted no because when I do watch BOS play it doesn't seem like he's the one driving play. It seems like he's more the beneficiary of being with good linemates like Pasta as of late. This also doesn't help BOS get a #1/#2C which is far more important...it actually hurts the ability to do that because $4.75M is too much. I'm not worried about the 4 years part it's that there's $21M left over and no contract for Pasta/Swayman and 5 other NHLers.

BUT in reading BOS fans comments on here, they seem to like it. Maybe it helps get Pasta to signed for something reasonable? I guess if we're expecting Bergeron and Krejci to sign for $3.5M combined again then anything's possible. That kind of value is just a gift to BOS fans. I hope they appreciate it! They could each easily get ALOT more.

42 games, and hes got 5 goals.... that seems like a large overpay, especially for a team with cap issues (something the Bruins havent had until recently.) Hes got potential still...but few teams can afford to pay for that, including the Bruins

He also has a shooting % that's down 33% from him last two years with the Devils. He's had probably 3-4 goals this year that go in if their an inch the other direction.

wouldn't be so much of an overpayment if he just knew how to stay consistent season after season

4 year deals never work out. Quite the take

Pretty obvious that's not what I meant. Deals like this for middle 6 guys never work out. Bloats the cap and teams are looking to move them in 2 years.

Not obvious. Some examples might have been helpful to get your point across

Over the last few years of middle 6 guys that weren't good finishers

Tanner Pearson, Joel Armia, Paul Byron, Goodrow, Zack Smith, Berglund, Rask, Perrault, Faska, Dvorak, Beagle,

You say that now in hindsight. A lot of these guys were either a: better defensively b: better offensively than Zacha at the time of contract. Some were even younger.

*He'll be 26 when the contract starts

If I see another "the cap is going up it's fine" comment I'm gonna lose it. Teams will be up against the cap all over again because of these kind of overpays for fringe top 6 players.

I think it’s crazy how many people said NO! This is a very good deal, for a good player, who was on a bad team until this year. He’s only 25, and is a solid 2C or 3C... and I don’t even like Boston... but it’s a solid deal for both sides!

Not sure why people think this is an overpay. He's a middle six c/w who is good at various things but excels at none. This is the going rate...

Since signing his new deal Zacha in 9gp has 6G/4A. He's currently on pace for just shy of 60pts for the season. If Zacha can been a 45+ point player over the next 4 years, this contract will look really good. Personally I see him as the #2C next year and having Pastrnak on his RW.
