Trouba for McKinnon then WPG VAN

Created by: scarbrow21
Team: 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2017
Published: Jun. 6, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
COL deal done prior to expansion protect Scheif, McKinnon, Wheeler, Little, Perrault, Lowry, Armia, Buff, Enstrom, Myers, Hellebuyck
Exposed: Copp, Dano, Postma, Chiarot, Stuart, Mathias, Hutchinson

Likely Selected: One of Dano or Copp

WPG has a deal in place with VAN that is to take place AFTER the expansion draft but before the entry draft for Chris Tanev.

McKinnon for Trouba is a hockey trade at it's finest. Top line FWD for top pairing RHD. Allows WPG to go 7-3-1 doesn't much affect COL other than now they can trade Barrie as they've upgraded with Trouba.

VAN needs to rebuild and the only way to do so is start stock piling picks and prospects and that's what the Tanev trade is about. Two very good young players in Petan and Dano, and 2 picks and at #13 they'll take a D and at #5 they'll take a C. Helps jump start the rebuild quite nicely.

Your Colorado-Jets trade is one of the better hockey deals I have seen on here, or anywhere, for that matter, in quite sometime. Unfortunately, unless Joe Sakic is somehow removed or resigns as GM, I highly doubt this deal ever happens.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous, I get Trouba is good (top 4 Dman at 23 and easly top pairing Dman in the future) but how can you think he's worth the same as MacKinnon straight up? MacKinnon, 1st overall, 21 year old already established as a #1 Center, just had 15pts in 10 games at the worlds just last month. come on now!

That's quote the trade w/ COL and WPG. I actually like the deal for both teams TBH. Good job.

Top pairing D for Top line C. Trouba is a year older, but comes with 9 years of control. Putting him till he's 32 at 7.5M. Mckinnon has 6 years at 6.3M. I'm sorry blazing but the value of RHD is at all time high. Hall for Larsson, Jones for Johansson. These are true hockey deals and RHD is the highest commodity in the league right now. That value is NOT far off as you make it seem. Trouba is at a .55PPG last year AS A DEFENCMAN, McKinnon .64PPG as a top line C. Draft position means nothing once players are established and using that as part of your justification is foolish...especially consider D RARELY go in the top 3 let alone 1st overall

Isn't that about the worse argument you could use....points scored at the Worlds. Come on now. Why didn't you mention his declining point totals in the past three years in the NHL. OK, if you don't like the trade and really think MacKinnon is a #1 centre, but to say because he was a # 1 pick years ago, has no merit now.
Signing Trouba to 7.5m a year, seems too much to me.

not saying value is that far off. and yes market value is high for RHD. But when you start a rebuild, you build around a #1 Center, (Matthews in TOR, McDavid in EDM, NJ with whoever they pick this year), you dont build around a Dman (unless you know 100% that you have a Erik Karlsson type player, which Trouba is not)

I'm sorry, but it makes absolutely no sense for a rebuilding team to acquire a stud Dman at the expense of a 21 year old #1 C. with that being said, MacKinnon is not going to get traded.

yeah you're right about me bringing up 1st overall pick (don't know why I wrote that to be honest lol) but the stats at the Worlds does show one thing, he's a #1 C, when the coach is playing him more than any other player on a stacked team (it's still a stacked team even if CAN was technically dressing its B team). it means something. the only player to play similar minutes than him was O'Reilly (that's another debate on its own though haha)

If Colorado acquired Trouba, that would give them 3 top four RHD along with Johnson and Barrie. Could Barrie then be used as bait to get a top six center, whomever that might be? Sorry to troll your Winnipeg team.

I think you move Johnson or Barrie as Trouba is easily the best of the 3 already. Not to troll COL fans it's just truth. Ask anyone who they'd rather have of the 3, and who still has the most upside. And don't even use the argument that he was a 1st OA pick! Then you move whichever gets you the best return and go from there. Draft another top end C with # 4 and begin the rebuilding process!

Why the f*%^ do people on these broads keep making trades to get Winnipeg forward help? They had top 5 talent in their top 6 forwards last season. They need to keep all their dmen and get more defensive help not lose dmen. These broads make no sense.

Yeah, I just figured Barrie could bring a better return than Johnson IMO. I agree Trouba would be the better of the three but do see the argument made by trading MacKinnon straightup for him with Colorado in a rebuild.

Most likely stems from the notion that Trouba apparently wants out. You are correct, tho, that the Jets are stacked up front and need more help on d and even goalie.

That's a quality trade. Would be a solid hockey deal for both clubs. WPG deals from a position of strength and gets a top 3-6 forward, and COL gets a stud to build a defense around.

Because there's potential that Trouba wants out no matter what. If that's the case, you need to maximize the return. The obvious thing for WPG to do is sign Trouba to the 8 year 7.5M deal and keep him as their cornerstone D. Well, if/when Chevy does that the people doing arm chair gm teams will leave it alone. And actually this board makes a lot of sense because we go out and get a good shut down defender in Tanev while still acquiring McKinnon and adding to that potent offense. PIT has shown that you can overwhelm even the best teams with arguably one of the weakest/most injured D's in the playoffs this year.

Don't know that Defense is "a position of strength" for WPG per say especially if Myers isn't 100%, but adding Tanev relieves some of the loss Trouba while covering the Myers issue and I don't know besides PIT if there's a team with a more potent offense if these trades go down. Could easily be 5+ guys over 60 points on this team with another 5 over 50points. That top 9 would be a nightmare for most teams and if they could get solid goaltending they'd be a cup threat easy

I would rather them expose Perreault and have him selected to get rid of his 4.125 cap hit, even if you had to give vegas something to take him. There is going to be a lot of cap space need in the next 2 years.....Ehlers, Morrisey, and Laine. As well as down the road if Connor and Roslovic pan out.
I do like the idea of Mackinnon for Trouba although I don't think it will happen

Defensive is worse. Crosby and Malkin change everything. When you have 2 of the top 5 forwards in the NHL it changes everything you can do. Also Letang covers a ton of warts the pens have on the back end and they get great goaltending. The jets have Trouba for a min of 3 more yrs. Thats longer than they have Enstrom or myers. Longer than Little and Wheeler why are these players being moved out? Also name a cup team that doesn't have a true #1 dmen and has won the cup? Maybe 1 if the pens do it this year. If you trade Trouba the jets don't have a #1.

Perreault is on a friendly contract. You have Little, Enstrom, stuart, Myers and wheeler all coming off the books before Laine needs a new deal.

He is signed thru next season unless you are figuring in his RFA status. He sat out a good portion of this past season because he does not like how he is utilized by the Jets. While he probably got more quality TOI, that was a direct result of the Myers injury. If he proves to be "a cancer in the room", is that worth keeping? As a top pairing RHD with some size, Chevy should be able to get a very good return package instead, IMO.

I love Trouba, and he would be the perfect Dman for the Avs to get...however I would hate this deal. MacKinnon holds more value to the Avs as being their 1C for the next decade over adding a Top 4 Dman (the RFA status scares me)

To me MacK holds more value than Trouba, as I look at it in this way. Will Trouba be a teams Stud 1D vs Will Mack be a teams stud 1C? I put more faith in MacK being that guy over Trouba

People forget next year he gets ab. rights. Which he will file its his only leverage once he does jets will have a contract for him. He is also extremely well liked in the room. Works out with Wheeler in the summer. Very close friends with Scheifele and Copp. This isn't a kane situation.

You bet! Thanks for clarifying things a bit. He is a tremendous asset to have. Despite any grumblings about playing time/positioning/unhappiness, he has played well and not hurt his stock in any way, it appears.

The deal was predicated on Trouba signed to an 8 year extension. Plus he's already under contract for next year at 2.8M so it's technically 9 years of Trouba for 6 of McKinnon
