That is a really bad trade for Leafs, no chance Zucker is enough of an upgrade on Kerfoot to warrant a 1st 🤯?
Also bizzare that Pens would do this given they are in playoff spot currently and Sid & Gino are not getting younger so it’s “go for it” every year now isn’t it?

We are out of the playoffs right now and Zucker is significantly better than Kerfoot.

Agree to disagree - Zucker is marginal upgrade offensively but worse defensively compared to Kerfoot.
My point is - didn’t think Pens had the option to be sellers @ TDL. You’re one point out of playoffs with games in hand; how many years is Sid & Gino’s competitive window open? Think you have to go for it every year until the retire / decline

There’s nothing to go for. They’ve lost 8 out of 10 games. The future doesn’t offer an easier schedule. We could stand pat and just roll with this old and slow team but I’m convinced they’ll miss the playoffs, so I’d rather sell off expiring contracts than hold them for no reason.

They are 1 point out with 2 games in hand on the Isles. Stop being so dramatic. Once they get their 3 top TOI D and starting goalie back they will be fine.

And when’s that going to be? Exactly no one knows. I was at the game last night and they dominated us. We are not a good team and it’s time to stop pretending.

I think a lot of Pens fans are overreacting, at least for now. Rumor is that Hextall wants to just ride it out this season. If that rumor is true, it might be time to hit the panic button. At least for now, we're in a wildcard spot by point%, but not by totals.
As for the Leafs trade, I disagree. Kerfoot's play hasn't been spectacular. He's scoring at 1.7 points/60 and his Corsi and xG numbers are ok. Corsi is a little below 50% and xG is a little above.
But Zucker has been excellent this year. His scoring is at 2.7 points/60, his Corsi and xG numbers are great. He's also one of the Pens' leaders in hits and plays a relentless, energetic game. I don't know how much of Zucker's game you've seen this season, but I've seen a lot of it. If I was Kyle Dubas and I was offered this deal, I'm taking it without hesitation.

We've also been missing Petry for over a month, Letang and Jarry all of 2023, and these last two games without Pettersson. Argue with me about how effective Tanger and Petry have been this sesason, replacing your leaders in TOI isn't easy. Look at last night, we had a one goal game against the Metro leader without our starter and missing arguably our 3 best defensemen in the 2nd night of a back to bacl. I expected a blowout.
As for the near future at least, the Devils are the only team we face for the rest of the month in a playoff spot. Get a little healthier, shore up our forward depth, and we won't be dead and buried just yet.

And some games are like that. Sometimes the team that plays worse wins. Let worse teams have hope and they'll take advantage of it. Right now I'm more concerned about getting results than deserving results. The results we got were a lot better than the results I expected.
My two cents is this. As far as the regular season goes, I'm not betting against Sid, Geno, and Tanger. I've made that mistake before. Pens teams always have these ups and downs. They'll perservere.

They were without their top 3 D. Get healthy and make some trades to make that bottom 6 actually useful. You don't just give up on a season because of a bad stretch. That's pathetic.

Appreciate your feedback; I don’t watch other teams (only Leafs vs whoever they play), but zucker’s been around a long time. Good player but not what we need imo.
Leafs should be adding to squad only not shipping out regulars in any tdl move.
2023 1st will be one of (if not the) biggest bullets Dubas has to land a difference maker. Just don’t see him using it to acquire Zucker; and shipping Kerfoot is a non starter imo - he’s just too valuable - can play up and down lineup, center or wing, PK & PP2.

The bad stretch is 11 games and it started before Jarry was out. Look at the schedule and tell me how we are getting better? We have NJ 3 more times, NYR 3 more times and the Isles 3 more times. The Isles are no better than us but we aren’t a better team than NJ or NYR. We have 2 against Colorado right in time for them to get healthy again. We have one more left against Boston and another against Edmonton. It’ll come down to those Metro division games. Hextall screwed up this offseason and it’s pretty obvious at this point. The Marino trade was abysmal. Petry and Matheson is a wash with both being hurt but one is 34 and make over 6 million a year. Jarry has been out of the lineup at the worst times more than once now. Are we going to throw a ton of money at him this offseason or is it time to try another route in goal? I’d rather have 3 1sts in this draft making those trades above. Those kids will be helping this old core win in a couple years. Sid and Geno can still play but we need kids and we need them fast. Nursing homes don’t win cups.

I watch the leafs more than any team not named the Pens. You guys need a top 6 winger. It’s honestly your biggest hole. This is the best defensive team Dubas has out together. Kerfoot at 3.5 m is a problem for the leafs. You have players who bring what he brings for half or more than half the price, ZAR, Kampf, Holmberg, all bring that defensive minded approach for a cheaper price. Matthews and Marner are defensive wizards given how talented they are all across the board. You’re just missing that one sniper. If it’s not Zucker it’s gotta be someone like him. I know how well Zucker has look with Geno and Rust. He’s played his best hockey since we got him. I wouldn’t be shocked to see us resign him on a cheaper deal even thought I think we need to get younger and that means not having a top 6 with 5 guys over 30.

All the points you bring up are 100% right. This is not a good team this year whether healthy or not and the schedule imo gets even tougher. We've played a lot of the bad teams already and lost to them or barely escaped with wins. Best thing we can do is get as many picks as we can at this deadline. More than one 1st would be huge for this team and benefit us more in the long run. And like you said, it gives the core a better chance in the future once those younger players we draft are in the lineup. I know it's an unpopular take, but there's a lot of us who feel the same way
