This seems like a lot given his production thus far

I'm torn on this. Seems like an overpay and Minnesota is only buying 2 UFA years, but he's looked very good at times. Definitely not good for their cap situation. I'll vote no, but this could definitely come back to haunt me.

Fantastic contract. Locked him up through the vast majority of his prime at a number that will soon look like a steal, imo.

Minnesota know they have those buyout penalties still right?

In the short term (one year seeing as cap is only going up 1M) this is alittle pricey but in the long term this is going to be fantastic, with the cap expected to rise quite a bit over the next few years good to lock him up. He is still young and if the Wild can get some higher end talent next to him so he can produce like he did when he had Fiala on his line then this is going to be a great contract. Nice job BG!!

Not without risk, but I think this is a bet you take all day. Could be an absolute steal, and with the way the cap is trending in the next 5 years or so, it'll be fine even if he peaks at that 2nd line zone imo.

I've liked his play but not enough for this. But, in 4 years, this could look better than Tage's contract!

I voted yes.
In a vacuum this is a pretty good deal for a guy like Boldy but this AAV gives Guerin very little room to maneuver through the last two years of the Suter and Parise buyouts.
Wonder if the Wild didn't squander their chances at a cup here just because they couldn't find a 2-3 year bridge for Boldy.

Next year looks tight but in 2024 they will have Zuccarello, Foligno, Goligoski, and Fleury off the books. That’s a little over 14 million in cap gone plus the cap should have a significant rise in 2024. They have a ridiculously good prospect pool.

They lack the high end 1C, hopefully Rossi can be that guy or they go out and find one. I really like their future

Also, Dumba will be gone next year unless he sign for a lot less than his current $6mil cap hit.

Honestly, I really like this deal. Matt Boldy is an absolute stud and for a team that's tight with cap space, 7 x 7 is a great deal that will age gracefully.

Dumba is coming off the books and the Wild have a great prospect pool, so they'll be able to lean on a few of those ELCs while guys like Fleury, Goligoski, and Zucc play out the rest of their deals

Producing less while playing more, with half of that on the power play. As a 21 year old under team control for several years, this seems like jumping the gun. Not a bad gamble, but is it a necessary one?

Tough for me - love the value in a vacuum but think that if any team should've done a bridge deal and risked a higher AAV 3 years from now, it would be the Wild. I could see a very Panthers-esque season for them next year if the cap stick at $83.5M and anyone gets hurt.

Good contract for sure. I think it'll be similar to Jack Hughes' in terms of being a bit much given short term production, but Boldy looks like he'll outperform it. May suck for the cap situation now, but by the time their penalties are over, this contract will belong to one of the teams best players with plenty of cap room to spare to support him.

For a 21 year old who has only played two half seasons and hasn’t got to a point per game pace yet, that’s a ridiculous cap hit!

While Robertson, a proven 40 goal scorer, is making 7.75M for 4 years 😉

I don't get why people dislike these deals. Boldy is locked up for his prime at a reasonable cap hit. Smart signing with the cap going up.
