What our plan should be

Description
We've got a month to TDL and I think it's obvious by now that we are either going to get loads of cheaper smaller named players or one big name player (due to Toronto's prospect pool). Assuming Muzzin is out for the season, I think Knies signs before playoffs. He shouldn't be rushed into the show and should probably be on lines 3 or 4. More than likely, McMann gets sent down especially when Roberston comes back. Simmonds, Hunt and Benn go onto the Taxi squad to maximize cap space. Now we have 3.5 mill in cap space to work with. If I were Toronto, Minten would be called up in the back half of the season and possibly playoffs but I know that's unlikely so I won't make that adjustment. The biggest need that Toronto has in my opinion for each position is:

Right handed forward

"Minute eating" defensemen (someone who is able to eat 10-20 hard minutes a night)

True #1 goalie

To start, the third thing we have is good, Sammy and Murray are very good, so we don't need to go after a goalie at TDL. Personally, I would like to see the return of Jake Gardiner, but he is hurt and Carolina is doing too well to make that trade. Next, I started looking and found Nikita Zodorov, he easily gives the older players a break and can eat a lot of minutes as a defensemen as shown when I watch Flames games. I don't think his cost is that high but Flames fan will have to let me know (No Minten, No Knies though). As for forwards, Pool party does interest me however as like another Matt Murray (Can maybe play better in TO than how he is playing in EDM) and maybe EDM doesn't mind retaining on Pool. I am thinking that he could be good depth and it definitely won't be expensive. We could maybe send Kerf (I put him in LTIR to figure out cost in case he goes the other way) and both have a change of scenery type thing. The more I think about it, the more Kap retained would be a good fit (PK and maybe PP) and gives us a second righty in the bottom 6 (including Pool party).

Only Engvall is out performing our bottom 6 and not by much, you need Simmonds grit a lot more than we do. None of these guys make the team or move the needle much. We need a top 6 player to push someone down the lineup, not more bottom nine guys to put in the blender.

        Brodie and Kerfoot yeah probably

Holmberg is sneaky good tho. 4 goals, 7 assists in 28 games while exclusively playing bottom 6 is very very good for a rookie. Per 82, that average to about roughly 44 points which is about Kefoot/ Engvall production in his rookie campaign. Simmonds' grit makes your team also (again "that we were willing to trade" doesn't mean other players on our team can't make your team but players that we are willing to part ways with at the right price)

Gonna completely disagree with you on these. Simmonds is just cheaper Lucic at best and Holmstrom isn't better than any of our other call ups. Especially Ruzicka.

        1. Simmonds is cheaper and better Lucic
        2. Holmberg not Holmstrong
        3. Holmberg per 82 this season is doing better in points than Coleman, Ruzicka, Lewis, Lucic and Mangiapane (per 82)

        1. That's really not an accomplishment to brag about. He's also only played 10 games
        2. Honest mistake, was preoccupied and didn't double check the names spelling
        3. Check that math again. Holmberg is on pace for 32 points. Ruzicka is on pace for 47 points. Mangiapane and Coleman are on pace for 37 and 33 points but both are heating up since being placed back on a line together. The Mangiapane/Backlund/Coleman line is statistically the best line in the entire league so far this season.

Lewis is whatever, he's a 4th like shutdown guy

        1. Simmonds makes you team
        2. no worries, just pointing it out
        3. 32? I thought he was roughly on pace for 44 points 1rst, second Holmberg's first few games were essentially a wash off and has been scoring consistently now. But he makes your team over Lewis and Lucic and is younger than most guys on your team (2018 draft pick)

Simmonds might only make the team bc Sutter is stubborn. But Ritchie is better and Lucic really shouldn't be playing at all over guys like Pelletier and Zohorna

        11 points in 28 games = .392 ppg = 32.2 per 82

He doesn't make it over Lewis, thats for sure. His production is irrelevant because his defensive game is great

Puljujarvi will likely cost next to nothing. Oilers need to clear cap for when Kane returns, and Puljujarvi hasn't done anything to increase his value this season. Plus he's $3M.

Kane returned yesterday, Puljujarvi wasn't traded.

Plus both were on the team pre-injury earlier in the season.

leafs need to bolster their offense. the team can play defense well and tighten up if they need to (even with rielly!!!!!!), and both their goaltenders are capable of giving a 0.900 performance in the playoffs. you can't win if you can't score the leafs need someone who can slot into their middle six to help deepen the lines and make the powerplay more effective.
