Given the amount of rental forwards avaliable, I doubt that Monahan brings a 23 1st even with retention.

I think MTL have a better chance to get a 1st for Edmundson. He's younger than Chiarot, and still has 2 years left. Defenseman like him were traded for 1st for the last 2-3 deadlines.

If MTL can't get a 1st for Monahan, i would ask for a conditional 2nd becoming a 1st if the team win 2 playoffs rounds. Something like Copp last year.

i feel like teams will have learned from the chariot trade and offer a slightly less apealing package. that's why i went with a 2nd but we never know they might still be that stupid and do it.

and for monahan i agree that would be a good idea

Teams throw high picks for those kind of defenseman every trade deadlines.

Savard was traded for a 1st in 2021. Won the cup with Tampa. They're all not worth a 1st, but that's apparently their trade deadline value.

I think two years of Edmundson at 1.75M would interest some teams. If not, keep him one more year and trade him next season.
